4 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, January 17, 2012 MB RUBBISH RENEWED REUSE, DON'T THROW OUT Think ahead when you recycle RECYCLING is easy when you know what to do. Stuff we throw out without a thought can have a second life when we are in reuse-reduce-recycle mode. Top Tips Most home waste involves food. Plan your meals so you don't waste anything. Leftovers can be a snack, another meal or a quick packed lunch from home. Put old cooking oil and fat in a used milk carton or jar and put it out in the rubbish, not down the sink. Old newspapers, magazines and books are easily dumped but can be used to clean win- dows, wrap food and wipe spills. Make your own gift wrap from magazines and comics. Old tins and containers are great storage things. Use an old biscuit tin to store treasures. Put clear plastic lids under oil jars or aerosols to prevent oil or rust marks on your shelves. RECYCLING OUR DUMPING GROUND RECYCLING CONFUSION RIFE IN AUSSIES Recycling habits learnt at home often become relaxed when people are out and about. Janita Singh THOUGHTLESS behaviour and confusion leads to many Aus- sies dumping recycling items as general rubbish. The Electrolux Plastics Pol- lution Report says despite our vigilant recycling efforts while at home, four out of five people admitted they made less effort to recycle when they are out and about. This serves as a warning for Australia's beautiful coastline as the beaches are one of the worst affected areas, with almo- st half (43 per cent) of respon- dents confessing they have failed to recycle waste while enjoying the seaside. While some are quick to blame a lack of recycling facili- ties along the coast for their lax approach, two-thirds (64 per cent) said it was simply the result of the individual's thoughtless behaviour. Electrolux product marketing manager Julian Huitfeldt said there was no room for excuses. ''Many community groups and councils across the country have introduced a number of initiatives and facilities to re- duce litter and improve recycl- ing when outdoors. It's time for us all to take responsibility,'' she said. www.designarobe.com.au • FREE Measure & Quote • 10 Years Guarantee CUSTOM MADE BUILT IN WARDROBES Unit 2, 68-72 Derby Street, Silverwater 2128 Showroom Open 6 Days We await your visit to our showroom! 9748 0844 BUILDING LIC NO 204289C 2049999 30/8 BUILT IN WARDROBES FACTORY DIRECT PRICES BUILT IN WARDROBES FACTORY DIRECT PRICES PH: 9890 7477 PH: 9890 7477 • FREE MEASURE & QUOTE • LIFETIME GUARANTEE Made to suit your budget & needs • Style • Service • Variety • Full range • Accessories • Hinged Doors • Sliding Doors • Over 20 years exp.
