Using a tape with an open-side adhesive that does not match the sleeve or cylinder will result in increased bubbling between the tape and sleeve/ cylinder, or difficult demounting that will require labor-intensive cleaning to re- move adhesive and foam residue. Using a tape with a plate-side adhesive that is not compatible with the printing plate will result in edge lifting or destroyed plates. For all of the above reasons, it is critical to consider the sleeves/cylinders and plates you are printing with and match them with a compatible adhe- sive system to optimize your printing process. Failure to do so can result in wasting thousands of dollars and hours of valuable production time. To address the market needs, tesa tape has developed two distinct product lines, tesa Secure® and tesa Softprint® FE. The tesa Secure product family is designed to meet the needs of the printer focused on maximizing output. Its adhesive system is engineered to secure the plates to the cylinders or sleeves in the fastest presses and eliminate the possibility of edge lifting on even the longest printruns. The tape is designed to last longer than the use- ful life of the printing plates in today ’s demanding applications. For printers who need to maximize plate mounting and demounting processes to minimize job changeover time, tesa has developed the tesa Soft- Print tesa® FE product family, which is specifically engineered for fast mount- ing and easy demounting. The tape is designed to quickly and securely mount the plate without the need for adhesion promoters and to mitigate edge lifting of the plate, while at the same time allowing for easy plate repositioning on the cylinder or sleeve! After printing, the plate is easily removed without leaving any residue or causing any damage without the need to use adhesion block- ers. The new adhesive is also solvent- resistant and reliably prevents plate edges from lifting off of cylinders or sleeves when thin plates are used. An important element of the new tesa plate mounting tape is the foam backing: scanning electron microscope images reveal closed foam cells with an extremely regular cell structure in tesa Softprint®. The effect: high print quality, fast and precise recovery after compression, even in the case of high print speeds and long runs. Thanks to optimized consistency of form, even microscopically small print details can be reproduced perfectly.
