The system offers 100 percent inspection at any speed, and even during speed changes. Master images can be trained automatically for quick setup, or the operator can define separate zones and sensitivities based on need. PC Industries notes, “Once a master is set up, all of the information from the job can be saved and easily retrieved at a later time for future runs. “ Defect Roll Map is also offered as an option on every Guardian PQV system. It interfaces with any slitter/rewinder, automatically, and presents defects for corrective action. The unit also records and generates a report of operator action, producing a secure audit trail for each run that allows the operator to quickly locate the defect and take the appropriate corrective action. With the integration of PDF Check into the Guardian PQV System, PC Industries offers an option for customers who de- mand an extra level of accuracy in their 100 percent inspec- tion systems. Operators only need a few seconds to take the image from the press camera and compare it to the customer approved PDF. This process reduces the amount of time it takes to inspect each roll by eliminating unnecessary stops and starts. Defect correction is streamlined, taking less time and producing less waste. The Guardian 100 percent Inspection System is an in- tegral part of the production process control systems that PC Industries offers. It has been installed on numerous presses since its release. Press owners and operators alike provide positive feedback about the system. A recent installation was for True Label Inc. , a producer of high-quality, pressure sensitive labels, where Production Supervisor Jeremy Michael states, “Production has been improved in multiple areas of our process including press operation, auditing, and rewinding. The press operators are able to get jobs up and running faster, the auditors are able to edit rolls faster because the number of false errors has been reduced, and the rewinders are able to rewind faster because of the systems accuracy of placing defects. “ PC Industries cites the following estimates on return on investment: • Approximate System Cost: $50,000 • Approximate Waste Savings: 5-10 percent • Savings on $100,000 of material per month: $5,000 - $10,000 • The system pays for itself in approximately 5-10 months n www.flexography.org january 2012 FLEXO 41
