Technologies & Techniques No Harsh Breaks Flat Top Dots improve Tonal Range, gradations, Blends & Performance By combining high resolution imaging (up to 5000 dpi), specialized screening, flat top dot technologies and unique exposure techniques from several vendors, OEC Graphics has created something new and attention wor- thy—OEC HD-Flat Top Dot and HD-ITR Flat Top. The company believes that, thanks to this breakthrough, the finest flexo- graphic printing plates ever seen are now being produced. “ While using each of these technologies by themselves brings nice benefit, the combination of them provides stun- ning results and significant benefits in efficiency. Using high-res optics and specialized highlight screening delivers highlight detail never before heard of with printable highlights down to 0.4 percent. This allows for beautiful gradations and blends down to zero without the harsh breaks typical in flexo printing,” the product development team explains. Elaborating on the possibilities the developer maintains, “HD optics give dot gain characteristics similar to offset, meaning significantly reduced dot gain with greater tonal range and color reproduction.
