Dot plates perfect for expanded gamut printing. In the dark shadows and solids, the flat top dot, combined with proprietary screening techniques, gives far higher densities and a beautiful smoothness in solids.” SPEED MEETS QUALITY Flexographic printers can bolster their competitive positioning against gravure. And, by delivering similar, and in some cases superior quality to gra- vure at lower costs, brand owners can now cost-effectively achieve the highest level of quality, even in shorter runs. Use of the technology accommodates broader line extensions, regionaliza- tion and special event promotions. OEC HD-Flat Top Dot technology delivers the highest solid ink densities and allows flexographic printers to maintain those densities even at drastically higher press speeds. By using OEC HD ITR-Flat Top Dot the speed benefits are gained along with the quick changeover and make ready already enjoyed by users of OEC in-the-round offerings. When combined with expanded gamut printing, now the flexographic printer can combine multiple flavors or line extensions on the same web improving press utilization, growing profits and providing the brand owner with faster time to market. At one well-known flexible packag- ing converter where OEC HD-Flat Top Dot plates were tested, the press team was reported to have raved about the quality, saying it was the best they have ever seen: throughout the tonal range, details and density. Then, as the run continued, they were able to double the speed of their press while experienc- ing no loss of solid ink density. As the run progressed they also noticed that plate cleaning during the run was not required and that print consistency was maintained. After the run, OEC learned the plates were inspected and it is anticipated they will be able to be reused for a total of 2X the run length ability of conven- tional plates. At two other multi-site converters, similar experience was cited, with one of them introducing its largest CPC customer to the benefit of OEC HD-Flat Top Dot technology. These results can be achieved without changing screen line ruling, allowing for incredible results while using the same anilox rolls and inks. Better results have been seen with OEC HD-Flat Top Dot technology at 120 line than seen using other plates imaged at 200 line. RUNDOWN ON ROI Cost of OEC HD-Flat Top Dot plates are only a few pennies more than con- ventional plates, but deliver so much. While pressroom efficiencies vary from factory to factory, experienced convert- ers are seeing an up to 25 percent improvement in overall press utilization. If you have five presses, that is the equivalent of one additional press. Plus, the increased speeds will give the flexographic printer higher profits and the ability to win bids for more price sensitive jobs while maintaining good margins. Because of the high quality print, flexographic printers are now able to go after work previously only printed gravure and grow market share. n Get your copy of FLEXO now Get your copy of FLEXO now Annual Subscriptions: $55/U.S ., $76 International Visit www.ftastore.com or call Customer Service at 631-737-6020. www.flexography.org january 2012 FLEXO 49
