MB HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, January 31, 2012 3 SOLUTIONS WHAT YOU CAN USE A CLEAN barbecue means you enjoy food that is healthier and tastes better. Here are a few ways you can clean your grill using everyday items. Start by opening your deter- gent cupboard. Look through the basic cleaning agents. Many of the products used to wipe down your kitchen benches can also be used to clean the barbe- cue. For this reason, it is also important to buy deter- gents that are environmen- tally friendly. You can also make your own cleaning solution by simply mixing vinegar and water in equal parts and storing it in a spray bottle. Use the solution with some- thing a bit abrasive, such as a scrubbing brush or even alu- minium foil folded a few times together or crumpled in a ball to scrub the grill. A paste of baking soda and water applied and left overnight also works well. Many people rub cut lemon or onion on the barbecue with coarse salt. CLEANING BARBECUES GRIME CAN BE A SNAG ELBOW GREASE GETS RID OF BUILD-UP There is nothing quite like the taste of a barbecue. Janita Singh A BARBECUE is one of the rites of summer everyone looks for- ward to. Firing up the barbie and throwing on the steaks or snags and burgers is a summer ritual in many families. But before doing that, make sure the barbie is thoroughly clean and ready. Regular use of the barbie leaves a residue on the plate that needs to be clean- ed off. Each different type of barbecue -- gas, electric, char- coal or a smoker -- has its own different type of cleaning speci- fics, but the common mainten- ance to be done for each one is relatively the same. You need to gather common household items before you start to clean your barbecue. Most of these can be found around the house: steel wool pads, brass wire brush, dishwashing detergent, spray cooking oil, baking soda and aluminium foil. If you have removable racks, take them out and wash them with soap and water. Use the steel wool if necessary and some extra elbow grease. Make sure you rinse all the soap off well before you cook on them again. Once you have given your barbecue a good brushing and all build-up is gone, you need to spray a light layer of cooking oil on the grate. This prevents it from rusting. 2044359 18/10 For a free measure and quote call 9631 4828 www.instyleblindsandshutters.com.au • Plantation Shutters • Aluminium Shutters • Roller Blinds • Roman Blinds • Venetian Blinds • Panel Glide Blinds Instyle Blinds and Shutters Pty Ltd ALL AREAS 9838 9090 FREE MEASURE & QUOTE Lifetime Warranty www.justforyouwardrobes.com.au DESIGNED TO SUIT YOUR BUDGET Timber Coloured panel Painted Mirrored Sliding p Hinged Built-inWardrobe SPECIALISTS JUST FOR YOU WARDROBES PTY LTD Y Lic. 185684C 2174088K wk5 V Supply dumper bin to be placed on site.
