COLLECTABLES PASSION PAYS OFF VINTAGE CAKE DISH STANDS GO ON SHOW Valentina Jones with one of her vintage cake stands. Details and tickets: visit www.lovevintage.com.au Janita Singh AFTER 20 years as a graphic designer, Valentina Jones de- cided to use her creative talents in a new way. She tapped into her longtime love for vintage crockery to launch a new career as a vintage cake stand creator. Valentina will have more than 100 styles on display at this week's Love Vintage Clothing Show at the Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park, from this Friday to Sunday. Her business, Valen- tina's Cake Stands, launched just eight months ago and cre- ates vintage cake stands. A collector of vintage crock- ery for nearly 20 years, Valen- tina had the passion and re- sources to start creating quirky mix-and-match vintage cake stands. Her creations typically have three components -- a cup at the top for sugar, spoons or other confectionary treats, then a des- sert plate and dinner plate underneath for finger sandwi- ches and cakes. She says the mint-condition crockery she uses to custom make her cake stands can be up to 100 years old. She is fascinated by the his- tory behind each piece. Her personal favourites are the ever-popular Shelley, Suzie Coo- per and 1930s designs. Unlike grandma's old china, Valentina wants her cake stands to be displayed and used on a regular basis, rather than kept for special occasions. She will be among 100 exhibitors at the show showcasing home products and clothing.
