MB HLW - HOME LIVING: WEST, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 1 STYLISH WAYS TO KEEP WARM ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS Susan Redman A handmade ceramic chimenea will keep you warm outside. WINTER WARMERS Gas and electric patio heaters: Bunnings Graphite patio heater, for example, is at the top of the range at $349, but it s a very smart option. It fits an 8.5kg gas bottle and heats up to 18sq m, has wheels for easy manoeuvrability as well as an automatic switch. Wall-mounted radiators: The 1300w Royal electric heaters, at $129 each are a smart choice, although the radiation capacity of these only covers about 9sq m. Available at many good hardware stores. Tabletop heaters: The 40cm high gloss white and glass-framed Ezy Flame decorative ethanol fire is a super cool-looking addition to any contemporary table setting. Contact Vioflame at blackandstone.com.au Ceramic braziers: The Chimenea Pottery Chapala Flamma, which stands almost a metre high, is $179 and available at Bunnings. Firepits: Jamie Durie s Patio-branded cast-iron firepit, available from Big W for $78.84, adds rustic charm to any outdoor party during autumn and even winter. OUTDOOR HEATING WE love to eat outdoors in sum- mer, but we are often forced inside once the weather turns chilly. Now there's no need to allow a little cool weather to spoil plans for outdoor entertaining when there are stylish new ways to keep warm. Outdoor heaters are not just practical but cool, too. From shiny stainless steel gas column radiators to groovy cast- iron firepits, here are some of the hottest outdoor options on offer. Gas and electric patio heaters provide plenty of heat which radi- ate down from a reflector at the top of a central column. Bunnings has several, including cheaper gas alternatives, as well as electric radiators that can be bracketed to a wall (good for a designated entertainment area). But, alth- ough they are much less intrusive than the larger gas stand-alones, they don't give out as much heat. Tabletop heaters are not just a great way to warm hands but they also provide a gorgeous dining feature. Or how about a handmade op- tion? The chimenea, a ceramic freestanding wood-fired brazier, will add atmosphere to any out- door dinner party. Bunnings have quite a few, including several made in Mexico. Firepits are really popular out- side as they invariably make a special feature in your garden or paved and landscaped dining area by emulating the idea of the open campfire. Seen any great ideas?
