FLEXO Magazine : April 2012
Measure and calibrate. Fingerprint and profile. Communicate and confirm.” Brad Ehlers, Berry Plastics, said, “F I RST is a roadmap for operators to follow to get repeatable outcomes. It em- braces one idea. Printers providing what customers want. Establish targets. Print with confidence. Print by the numbers. Keep in mind that FIRST certification educates all involved in the goal and pro- cess. When you standardize printing, it makes it easier for all involved. Certifica- tion is a powerful tool from FTA. ” Jay Sperry, Havi Global Solutions, stayed on message. “ Be and stay relative. Utilize real-life examples. Seamlessly print the same graphic to the same standard everywhere in the world.” Drew Miller, Multi Color Corp., opined,“ Linking of once dis- tinct functions has helped streamline handoff steps—design to prepress to printer. That enhances speed to market. FIRST carries you through. Control the process. Optimize. Eliminate variables. Capture connections. Put collected data to use. Share the wealth. Be ready to make adjustments.” Asked to describe Forum in a few words, attendees generally raved about their experiences. Bill Whitfield, MPI La- bel System, commented. “T he sessions are always informative but the best part about the entire week is that the learning continues even after you have left a program.” Robert Parfetti, ARC International, said, “Very enlightening. Technologies discussed will make this field grow astronomically.” Seeming to echo those views, Brian Ritter, Appalachian State University, stat- ed, “Valuable information was shared. It will influence decision-making in coming years. Being attuned to digital advance- ments is being competitive. ” Lisa Espi- noza, a first-time delegate from Prairie State Group, pointed out, “Great ses- sions. Very informative too. ” Tom Ross, Kustom Group added, “Solid presenta- tions. I took good notes. ” Tim Esselman, Rock Tenn Merchandising and Display, said, “For data presentations, FTA kept it interesting. Very informative. ” David Hodges, Packaging Specialties of Georgia, deemed “real-world issues thought provoking,” then said, “Forum provided a very nice blend of informa- tion that represents the entire supply chain. Sessions were highly relevant, as illustrated by the number of questions asked and the fact that few folks left the room. ” Paul Lewis, Conversource, simply applauded the “strong details that were well supported by visual dem- onstrations. ” Bob Mullen, Sun Chemical, chair of FTA’s 2013 Forum, set for April 28-May 1 at the Marriott Marquis & Marina and San Diego Convention Center, decreed, “A home run! Tremendous group of pro- cess experts... Good input from CPCs... Masterful delivery—let’s do it again!” n www.flexography.org april 2012 FLEXO 27 BETTER TOGETHER CyberXtendTM Makes It Easy to Combine Multiple Jobs onto the Same Press Run Vibrant Process Reproductions Inventory Reduction Reduced Ink Waste Faster Turnover For the record In the narrow web winner’s section of the March 2012 issue of FLEXO, McDowell Label was incor- rectly identified.
