FLEXO Magazine : April 2012
“ Industry Indicators Growth, Diversity, Customization Packaging takes Prominent Position at drupa 2012 Print Media Fair By robert Moran Highly innovative. ” “Poised for growth.” T hat’s how drupa planners describe packaging. As the May 3-16 dates for print’s 15th world assembly and drupa’s 60th anniversary edition approach, packaging stands out as print media’s market segment that is reporting higher job counts, complex demands and high grade applications. Talk revolves around optimization, efficiency and process control. Content, technology and new business models are being emphasized. Brand image, identity and integrity are being stressed. Discussions in Dusseldorf are destined to drive those and other points home. Conversation will stretch over 14 days and involve some 375,000 individuals who will be networking at more than 1,800 trade fair stands. Germany is packaging’s port of call this May. Technical in- novations will be unveiled, automated management tools will be embraced, workflow improvements will be explored, criti- cal approaches to cost control will be outlined and limitless opportunities for finding just the right solution to long-standing challenges will present themselves. As a result, capital expenditures, some large, others small but still significant, will be made. Progress will be charted. Print, as a communications medium, will strengthen its competi- tive posture. Its practitioners will readily embrace imminent advancements and step confidently into the future. That is the universal consensus of both show planners and participants. Their forecast points to fantastic developments ahead. STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS Werner M. Dornscheidt, president and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, the show manager, recently told FLEXO, “ Visitors from all over the world can be sure that drupa 2012 will present a complete, global overview of state-of-the-art technologies.” He admitted that, “Print buyers, budget owners and print specifiers—drupa’s target audience--have highly diversified interests and needs. ” To accommodate their demands, drupa 2012 is employing three strategic directions. It will: • Strengthen print by networking it with new digital tech- nologies to deepen its content • Maintain high flexibility to control content management at will • Maximize the effect of 360-degree communication 38 FLEXO aPril 2012 www.flexography.org OEC Graphics is the exclusive provider of the Polymount Plate Cleaner, engineered specifically for cleaning flexo plates.
