Switch From Standard to Hybrid Dots & Back Again DuPont Packaging Graphics (DuPont) has announced full commercialization of DuPontTM Cyrel® DigiFlow, a new digital workflow enhancement designed to expand the capabilities of digital Cyrel® and digital Cyrel® FAST to deliver superior print quality and productivity. The new technology will be featured in Hall 8, Stand C-24 at drupa 2012. “Higher quality at higher speed is our focus, and the enhanced capabilities of the new Cyrel® DigiFlow system continue to provide our customers with a competitive advantage,” said Tracy Lunt, global technical manager, DuPont Packaging Graphics. “ Cyrel® DigiFlow is a powerful tool to improve solid ink densities and print con- trast, while maintaining the outstanding image quality typically associated with Cyrel®, all within the existing digital workflow. ” Cyrel® DigiFlow is a relatively simple and inexpensive modification to the existing line of DuPont exposure units; it adds a chamber that facilitates the creation of a con- trolled atmosphere during the main exposure allowing one-to-one reproduction of image elements on the plate. This one-to-one reproduction is critical to optimizing the effects of solid screening patterns. The Cyrel® DigiFlow exposure units were designed for use on an “as -needed” basis, and can easily be switched off when the standard digital dot is the preferred result. Because of the low cost and the flexibility of Cyrel® DigiFlow, DuPont believes this is the simplest and most cost-effective solution for those flexographers desiring the ability to seamlessly switch between standard and hybrid dots. The Cyrel® DigiFlow offering is now available to order. Further spotlighting Cyrel ITR technology, DuPont will demonstrate its use on a range of Esko solutions, includ- ing the CDI Advance Cantilever 1450, Optics 40, HD Flexo, Inline UV2, and Drum sleeve. Inspect & Stabilize Press control technology provider QuadTech will show- case an assortment of groundbreaking color control and inspection innovations that will help printers achieve con- sistent quality, reduce waste, and improve profit margins. All will be on display in Hall 17, Stand A-10. For the flexo package printer, QuadTech offers fast in-line inspection and spectral color measurement solutions for film, foil, paper, and various laminates, enabling quality consistency and reduced waste. QuadTech’s true 100 percent Inspection System uses line-scan technology to compare each print repeat against a “golden template” which is a printed copy considered by the press operator to be as close to perfect as possible. QuadTech Color Measurement System with Spec- tralCamTM can ac- curately calculate L*a*b*, ΔE, Density and Δ Density at full press speed. This in-line system is extremely flexible with QuadTech’s patent-pending web stabilizer technology, which allows for precise spec- tral measurements on various substrates. Advanced spectrophotometer technology enables the system to quickly detect and analyze colorimetric and density variations from predetermined targets. Consistent, fast, accurate color quality is guaranteed. QuadTech Color Measurement System with Spectral- CamTM HD introduces in-line high-definition dot viewing and web stabilization capabilities, facilitating easy on- the-fly detection of dot abnormalities such as pinholing, bridging, doughnuts and halos. Images are captured at 2,500 dpi and are made instantly accessible through the ICONTM Integrated Platform. Quick, Eco-Friendly Flexo Plates Visitors to Fujifilm in Hall 8b, Stand A-25 -1 at drupa 2012, will learn of the introduction of a flexo focused multi- channel CTP platesetter, witness the unveiling of a digital carton press and familiarize themselves with updated automated workflow tools and an associated production management suite. Specifically: • Commercial availability of Fujifilm’s FLENEX DLE (Di- rect Laser Engraving) B2 CTP system for the produc- tion of flexo printing plates coincides with the staging of the event. The new DLE flexo plate and multi-channel CTP platesetter represents a revolutionary new solution for flexo printing applications that achieves extremely high quality image reproduction.Compared to com- mon LAM (Laser Ablation Mask) systems, Fujifilm’s 52 FLEXO april 2012 www.flexography.org
