Home Living : April 17th 2012
6 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 MB IT'S ALL ABOUT TRENDS INTERIORS REGAIN COLOUR VIBRANT ACCENTS, PLUS RETRO Janita Singh Details: formica.com.au, laminex.com.au or essastone.com.au Chrome and geometric patterns have returned for furniture. WITH an explosion of colourful interiors, living spaces are head- ing for a fresh new look this year. While the popular and lavish look of gloss seen last year still plays a key role in living spaces there is a resurgence of timber veneers along with the use of off- whites and blacks to create stylish spaces. Laminex Design Centre man- ager Lorraine Brigdale outlines some of this year's hot looks. Modernist This trend focuses on using as little as possible and as much as necessary. The 1940s to 50s are a key style influencer of the trend, with clean geometric lines and sometimes with '50s decorative details reprising Art Deco, New York Chrome, Scandinavian style and Bauhaus design. Get the look: Think oblique cof- fee tables, sleek natural wood tabletops and cabinets teamed with furniture with splayed legs in wood or black metal. Revisit This trend embraces the decorat- ive details and scale from earlier periods. The style mixes and matches arty, hand-crafted pat- terns and colour with vintage treasures, blending romance, flowers, graphic images, script, patterns, wood, paper, metal and linen. Get the look: Team printed soft furnishings with wooden or metal decorative details such as vases, light fittings or lamps to recreate the trend. Stone, concrete and wood Nature can be imitated with auth- enticity to achieve a feeling of comfort. The use of concrete sur- faces inside the home is also a key design element. Get the look: Natural wood grains and stone patterns, washed, weath- ered, softened and blended to create harmonious interiors. Chroma Quench Colour is used in a new way, with the concept of colour harmony being challenged and expanded with Chroma Quench. Two, three or more shades are being mixed to create interesting and vibrant schemes. Get the look: Colour pops up next to neutrals, hessian, black in small accents, and bases of tonal greys. LOOK OF STONE: COOL ELEGANCE Laminate gives you the look of real stone but with all the advantages of laminate. LARGE-SCALE stone patterns of- ten seen in hospitality and retail interiors are making a dramatic appearance as a feature in homes. As the use of large-scale stone becomes more popular in in- teriors, the latest technology has made it possible to produce a pattern that captures the intricacy and visual drama of a real stone slab in a laminate, meaning you get the look with all the practical advantages of laminate. The trend also works well with the grey tones popular this year. The result is superb colour sche- mes developed around a grey keynote and blending a variety of the tones that feature in many stone patterns. V Supply dumper bin to be placed on site.
