6 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 MB CRAFT ACTIVITIES HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN FAMILY FUN HOME PROJECT IS IDEAL Janita Singh Anything that involves painting, cutting or gluing can be a fantastic project for the whole family HOME projects are not only meant for grown-ups. Modern parents are finding cre- ative ways to work with their children involving their home. They make it a fun, family affair and a great way to spend more time together. Getting kids involved in home projects teaches independence and gives them confidence. Children will be only too proud to show off the project as one of their prized possessions. This could include building a simple cubby house, helping to paint a bedroom wall, making cool art-work, constructing a dolls' house, creating woodwork and mosaic designs or growing veg- etables or flower gardens. No matter what project you pick, the key is to keep it simple. Each task should also be age- appropriate and easy to follow. Most children love the outdoors --- nature, gardens and animals. The easiest way to get them started is to give them their own space to grow vegetables or flowers. And they can start by planting in pots. A vegie patch also teaches them valuable lessons about food. Building a birdhouse or feeder is another exciting project. Refreshing the look of the out- door furniture with a coat of paint this winter, decorating the garden wall, making artwork for the garden and decorating pot plants are all fun projects to take up with the kids. But think of safety and constantly supervise children. Finally, remember that not every DIY project needs to be for home improvement. Sometimes it can be just for fun. TIPS TO BEAT THE BOREDOM BLUES HOME projects are fun ways to keep children involved and bring the whole family together. And winter is the perfect time to introduce a few, says Bunnings national paint accessories buyer Barry Murphy. Here are his tips to beat the boredom blues. It is a good idea to research different projects children can complete. Ideas can be picked from anywhere --- magazines, movies and even shops. Take children with you when buying art and craft products. They will love being involved and feel a greater sense of achieve- ment once the project is done. Invite friends over to help com- plete the project. Be prepared to help. Adult supervision is essential. Ensure children are safe and protected while working on their projects, whether it is a ceramic, paint, woodwork or mosaic ac- tivity. It is a good idea to have gloves and aprons on hand to protect against accidents. @27+8>;7. ;8*- +;884?*5. 9187.# "" " " ``` OUXX[RWP\XU^]RXW\ LX ]XWb)OUXX[RWP\XU^]RXW\ LX Open 6 Days + Parking at door All work Guaranteed - Call now! The great thing about tiles is that they outlast many other floor coverings. Unfortunately, over time, dirt can become ingrained in the tiles and grout joints, which can be very hard to remove by home owners. At Tile Cleaning Solutions, we have a way of cleaning that "hard to remove" dirt from tiles. The process we use utilises hot water at high pressure to remove all the in-ground dirt and oils from the tiles and grout joints. A powerful vacuum simultaneously removes the water and dirt from the floor, leaving it totally clean, just like the first day the tiles were installed. It sounds messy...it isn't. Because all the cleaning is completed in a dome that is attached to the floor, there is no mess or overspray. We can clean and/or seal all internal and external tiles, pavers, stone surfaces, stencilcrete, stencilled & concrete driveways. MINOR REPAIRS ALSO DONE BY A QUALIFIED TILER.
