KIDS' ROOMS BATHROOMS FORKIDS... DESIGNERS ANSWER THE CALL Janita Singh Bathroom brand Raymor says safety must get precedence. CHILDREN today are lucky to have their own bedroom and now modern living demands giving them their own bathroom space. Designers have answered this call with new emerging trends involving kids' bathrooms. With so much available, it has become easy for parents to get carried away designing a chil- dren's bathroom -- either on its own or them sharing the common bathroom space. Bathroom brand Raymor says while doing kids' bathroom decor is so much fun, don't let that take precedence over safety features and your long-term plan. Think kid-friendly features and ways decor can easily be changed in the years after children grow up. It's important to sit down and do your research and get children involved. The ability to create an eye- catching, stimulating children's bathroom with the use of paint and tile cannot be under-estimated -- Use colour and pattern on the walls and floor in the form of paint and tiles, ensuring all tiles are of the anti-slip variety. And be imaginative and colourful with the accessories. Check out freestanding baths as they give parents more room to manoeuvre while supervising. Use a cute stool for smaller chil- dren to reach the basin (saves having to raise the height later) and use plenty of colour and creativity in the form of paint and tiles. Paint colour especially can be changed relatively easily as the child grows. Look at standard size fit- tings, with a focus on softly- rounded shapes for basins and toilets for safety. Ease of use is essential, so install items, such as a single lever mixer tapware or a rail shower, that can easily be adjusted by the child to the child's height. You could even add a hand shower for hair washing and rinsing. All of these mean the child's daily wash- ing and bathing routine will be easy, enjoyable, safe, and another room they can call their own. DESIGN TIPS FUN IDEAS ARE KID-FRIENDLY TOP tips for a kid's bathroom: Colour scheme Continue the same colour scheme from other parts of the house into your kid's bathroom. Clever element Be careful when using pictures and co-ordinate patterns and colours. Don't make the decor too busy. Make something the focal point and work around it. Give attention to towels and fixtures. Encourage contributions from the children Let your child paint a couple of tiles with non-washable paint, then make them into a splashback behind the sink. It's great when- ever you can incorporate chil- dren's own artwork into a space they're going to use. Remember, safety first Get adhesive shower mats and pads that stick to the bottom of the bath tub. Pick fittings that are rounded and adjust heights. Decorate for the moment. Since a kid's bathroom is not a forever kind of thing, concentrate on decor you can change easily, like paint, towels and curtains. 4 HLS - HOME LIVING: SOUTH, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 MB • 2 x Mirror doors • Wall to wall up to 2.4m wide • 1 x Single Hanging space • 1 x Draw unit (4 draws) + 3 shelving •1xShoerack • 1 x Double hanging space • 3 x mirror doors •Walltowallupto 3.6m wide Bankstown 9786 0395e Surcharge applies to Campbelltown area Wally's Wardrobe World 2173633i hlc wk49 up to 2.4m wide up to 3.6m wide 2.4m high 2.4m high $570 inc GST $870 inc GST KITCHENS & BATHROOMS of Distinction NEW KITCHEN AND BATHROOM FOR UNDER $22,000 not available with any other offer Country Link Kitchens 1/28 Airds Road, Minto | Ph 9824 5400 | Fax 9824 5455 www.countrylinkkitchen.com.au | Opening Hours: Monday-Friday 9am-4pm | Saturday by appointment Kitchen for $10,995 includes: Removal of kitchen Appliance package Westinghouse Appliance Pack: • POR663S oven • GHR125 gas cooktop or • PHR255S electric cooktop • WHR6051S slideout rangehood • Sorrento sink and tap Door series 1 vacuum form finish, selected colours Laminated benchtops Bathrooms $10,450 includes: Removal of bathroom Wall and floor tiling value $500 900 Vanity and mirror Clear Pivot door shower screen Taps - posh range Screw in accessories Dominique toilet All trades except for painting 2212250 24/4 Licence no 193815/C Come into our showroom for more details.
