Valley Forge Tape & Label Celebrates 50 Years When Valley Forge Tape & Label started manufactur- ing printed self-adhesive products 50 years ago, Walter Cronkite had just anchored his first news broadcast, the average cost of a new home in the U.S . was $12,500, and “The Beverly Hillbillies” was the top-rated TV show in primetime. Today, homes are just a bit more expen- sive, but Valley Forge Tape & Label (VFTL) continues to grow as an independent, family owned and operated, custom printing business. “ We’ve never been acquired by a faceless conglomer- ate or sold out to venture capitalists,” said Paul Myers, Jr. , president, VFTL. “ So, we’ve always been able to do what’s right for our customers. We still provide the personal ser- vice of a family business, but on a much larger scale. ” The company ’s capabilities have diversified significantly over the last five decades. Today it produces award win- ning pressure-sensitive labels, tamper evident and security products, as well as specialty self-adhesive constructions for the packaging of food, pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, animal products, chemicals and consumer products. Its manufacturing is done on 10 Mark Andy and Webtron presses using conventional flexo, UV flexo, and hot-stamp technologies. Fully digitial prepress operations are also housed at VFTL headquarters in Exton, Pa., along with customer service, sales and administration. VFTL was started by Paul Myers, Sr. After working for 16 years with the 3M Co., he and his sons started printing “Scotch Tape” in the basement of their home in Berwyn, PA. Today, Myers’ sons Dennis Hulton and Paul Myers, Jr. own and operate the company. “Printing today isn’t just about staying up with technol- ogy, and it goes beyond putting ink on paper,” said Myers, Jr. “ It’s about solving customers’ problems and making them feel comfortable knowing that their project will be handled correctly by a family business that’s still ‘sticking’ around after 50 years.” Dixie Graphics Mourns Loss of James R. Meadows James R. Meadows, Jr., owner and president, Dixie Graphics, passed away in April. He was 77. Meadows was the son of the late James R. Meadows and Constance O’Brien Meadows. He is survived by loving wife, Patricia C. Meadows; loyal friends, Cara Mae and Abby Jewel; stepson, Matt Williams (Jean), Nashville, TN; cousin, C .H. O’Brien (Jo) of Clarksville, TN; as well as numerous family members, lifelong friends, and current and former employees. Meadows attended Parmer School in Nashville, TN and was a graduate of The Webb School in Bellbuckle, TN; where he later served as Board of Trust chairman. In 1956, Meadows graduated from Yale University; and Cambridge University ’s Jesus College in England, in 1959—lettering in varsity crew at both universities. Meadows served his country in the U.S. Army before joining Container Corporation of America where he was a sales executive for 17 years. He returned to Nashville in 1977 joining Dixie Graphics Inc., where he became president and owner in the mid-1980s. His vision and passion fostered the reputation and success the com- pany continues today. Meadows was a lover and student of golf and will be missed by many of the game’s most noted instructors.
