a glimpse of the roll with no need for magnification. Nordmeccanica drew steady crowds to its numerous demonstrations of its Duplex SL HD---what it called the fastest solventless laminator in the converting industry. The compact laminator features automatic reel change systems and can be customized to client requirements. Highly automated, it boasts of a stream- lined intelligent operator interface. Graymills displayed its international award winning "Quick Change" peristal- tic ink pumps that are available in single and dual head versions. These pumps, developed specifically for printers, allow users to change hose and pump heads in seconds. The patented head design allows the tube to run direct from the ink container to the print deck--eliminating tube-destroying kinks, flow stoppages, snaking or tube creep common in other peristaltic pump designs. Praxair Surface Technologies marketed its new UV Gold and Nova Gold laser engravings for anilox rolls targeted exclusively for flexo printing. Advantages cited were high screen counts and volumes---30 percent great- er than 60-degree engravings, improved transfer rates, better print contrast values than conventional engravings, decreased possibilities of scoring and ghosting and shallow cell structures that promote easy cleanup. tesa tape's Softprint plate mount- ing tape assortment was reported to offer several proven process benefits for today 's flexo printers, thanks in part to a balanced range of five different hardness ratings. Printers were encour- aged to select the right hardness that fits the requirements for a specific job and design. Extra soft foam was said to produce the finest possible screens while reducing press vibration that can impact print quality. The hardest foam is meant to deliver near perfect solid area density while avoiding pinholing. Rossini's Evolution automatic clean- ing system for flexo central impression drums grabbed attention based on its promise to guarantee high performance cleaning. It features an oscillating and indexing fabric system and an inte- grated cleaning agent delivery system. The unit operates during set-up, serves to eliminate press downtime and helps to improve press speed and print qual- ity. It's marketed as fast, efficient and reliable. ROI is calculated in less than three months. Camis maintained that simplicity, accuracy and repeatability are the key to its Iriflex plate mounting system. Standard manual cameras, or optional motorized ones, ensure dot-on-dot ac- curacy while the various add-ons, such as the plate laying table and plate lay down roller allow the flexo printer to achieve a higher degree of standard- ization from cylinder to cylinder. The Iri- flex is available with the optional taper slide and proofing test that can cope with both geared and gearless flexo- graphic presses. The off-line version of the Taper Slide permits double-sided tape to be attached to sleeves and cylinders with constant tension, without air bubbles or creases, also enabling considerable timesaving when mount- ing. A cantilever sleeve change system makes it possible to apply the double- sided tape on cylinder and sleeve. The unit is available in two tape widths: 600 mm (24 in.) and 920 mm (36 in.). Daetwyler debuted its new Bluestar doctor blade for flexo printing. It features a flat 3-degree wedge cut measuring 60 um. Stability is increased and contact zone deviations are decreased. It is said to reduce impression pressure, increase service life, reduce scumming due to per- fectly matched contact zones, decrease downtime and result in fewer misprints. Polymount International BV continued to lament the benefits of its self-adhesive and compressible Twinlock sleeve. It elim- inates the need for double-sided adhesive tape when mounting printing plates and also increases press speed significantly because of its extremely low tolerances, according to the manufacturer. With a re-usable surface the Twinlock sleeve is sure to save both time and money. Simply by cleaning the surface of the Twinlock sleeve, the polymer based adhesion is reactivated and ready to hold the next set of printing plates.
