Home Living : July 3rd 2012
MB HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 5 BATHROOMS NEW TUBS SCRUB UP WELL STYLISH BATHS HAVE CLEAN LINES Janita Singh Bathing beauties: 1: Angela. 2: York. 3: Colleen. 4: Raymor. 1 2 3 4 WINTER is the perfect time to slip into a warm bath. There's nothing more relaxing than a nice hot bath at the end of a long, busy day. Most home designers are giving their bathrooms more thought -- it's no longer a tucked away, out- of-sight room. We are engaging architects and builders to make our own person- alised space and getting our inspi- ration from luxury hotels where we can retreat and relax in a stylish and spacious bath. One standout feature is having a free-standing main bath. Freestanding baths were orig- inally little more than over-sized buckets designed to be used when needed and put away. More permanent claw-foot baths were originally for royalty only, but as modern manufactur- ing methods brought prices down, they came into common use. For a time, freestanding baths went out of vogue, but they are back in style again. Here are our picks: Angela is a modern and freestanding bath with great head and back rest from Taste Living. Colleen is freestanding and all about clean fun in pure white. The wooden tub leads you to memories of old times. Details: www.tradelink.com.au The freestanding York from Vic- toria + Albert builds on a well- established trend of recreating authentic baths with deep, double- ended bathing well supported by an elegant pedestal base, which hides the plumbing work. The classic model's 1750mm length assures it's status as the centre- piece for all bathrooms. However, if your next thought is how to get out of that hot water into a cold bathroom, here's a few sugges- tions on how to make the bath- room experience cozy and warm even on the coldest winter days. A warm experience Get proper insulation on win- dows --- ideally they need to be double glazed. The right privacy guards (curtains, blinds, screens, panes) add a layer of insulation. Apply new silicon caulking around the window edges and replace any worn or flattened weather stripping on your win- dows. Bath rugs serve a multitude of purposes. They act as insulation for the floor, absorb water and prevent slipping. A heated towel rail will heat the room quicker than a normal heater and serve the dual purpose of also heating towels. Drying off with a warm towel will help you feel warmer and more pampered. Install a heat lamp in your bathroom. Modern heat lamps are reliable and give off a substantial amount of heat -- enough to make sure your bathroom is warm and toasty. Some come with timers as well.
