MB HLF - HOME LIVING: NORTH WEST, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 5 POOL MAINTENANCE KEEP THE SPARKLE IT'S WORTH THE EFFORT Janita Singh Putting in the effort in winter means your pool will be easier to get ready in summer. SHOULD you run your pool in winter or put it to bed? For many, winter is not the swimming season, so pools are covered and forgotten about. But any swimming pool owner will tell you a pool is a year-round commitment. Those who neglect their pool over winter will pay the price of getting it ready for warmer weather. How a pool is closed and maintained in the off-season will affect how easy it will be to open in summer. The ultimate objectives for winter pool care are to preserve water quality, pro- tect equipment and pool fin- ishes, and to have it ready with minimum effort. National manager of pool specialist Swimart, Chris Fitzmaurice, said a neglect- ed pool can lose its sparkle quickly. ''It's easy to disregard pool care when the weather cools down, but it won't thank you if you let things slide too far,'' Mr Fitz- maurice said. ''And regardless of the season, with the unpredict- able weather we have been experiencing, there's every chance you may be able to take a dip during winter.'' Mr Fitzmaurice said it was easier to stick to a maintenance schedule than to worry about it later. ''Once a week do a quick inspection and make sure all your equipment is work- ing properly. Also check the water level, empty the skim- mer basket and check chlor- ine and pH levels,'' he said. - Built in Wardrobes - Shower Screens - Vanity Mirrors - Glass Splashbacks 4647 2344 30 Bluett Drive, Smeaton Grange, NSW 2567 www.stylishwardrobes.com.au Fax: (02) 4647 2355 ABN: 93 120 738 383 Business Est. for more than 22 Yrs Renovating?
