BATHROOMS SPACE NEEDED IN COOL RENO STAY IN FRAME WITH DESIGN Janita Singh There are plenty of options to go with for a bathroom renovation. A WELL-DESIGNED bathroom can be a huge selling point for your home, so what should you consider when renovating? When designing a good all- purpose bathroom, the most im- portant thing to consider is space. A bathroom that has enough space to move around in without feeling cramped is going to be much more appealing to prospective buyers. There are many ways to maxi- mise the feeling of space in a smaller bathroom without major changes to the layout or fittings. Floating vanities or toilets off the wall can give the impression that the bathroom is larger than it is, as it creates more visible floor space. Frameless or semi- frameless shower screens also give the illusion of more space, as they don't create any visual bar- riers or block the light. According to experts, these are almost stan- dard in any new bathroom today. As for colour schemes, it's safer to stick to white or neutral tones. Even though you may really like that aqua feature wall, a potential buyer may not, so it's a better idea to personalise your bathroom in non-permanent ways, using acces- sories or towels. It's important to make the bath- room as appealing as possible to a broad range of people, which means catering to all needs. So while you may not have any desire for a bathtub, installing one is a safe bet. Prospective buyers will certainly expect to see one in the main bathroom. Storage is another key to cre- ating a good bathroom, and can make or break a design, so be sure to include plenty of space for towels, cosmetics and cleaning products. If you want to go the extra mile, a few luxurious ad- ditions can't hurt, such as heated towel rails or double basins. With today's focus on sustain- ability, think environmentally friendly features like water-saving fitting and fixtures. SLEEK, MODERN LINES WIN DAY A vision for an open bathroom to be enjoyed daily, took the top award in Reece's Beautiful Bath- room Competition. The winning bathroom from Dural (pictured above), was not only practical but functional, boasting a calming and contem- porary design. The overall winner was a mono- chromatic retreat --- a beautiful open bathroom connected to the master bedroom. With sleek, modern lines mixed in with traditional touches, the bathroom featured twin basins complemented by chic tapware, while the elegant timber screens created a calming sense of priv- acy. A freestanding bath was a focal feature. Reece's annual search to find Australia's best bathrooms ran online with public voting. Two other bathrooms won the Aust- ralian people's choice awards. The natural beauty bathroom from Cottles Bridge, Victoria, used natural material, simple lines and luxurious, modern fittings and a freestanding bath. - Built in Wardrobes - Shower Screens - Vanity Mirrors - Glass Splashbacks 4647 2344 30 Bluett Drive, Smeaton Grange, NSW 2567 www.stylishwardrobes.com.au Fax: (02) 4647 2355 ABN: 93 120 738 383 Business Est. for more than 22 Yrs Authorised Dealer Licence No 215990C PHONE NOW for a FREE In-Home Quote 9737 02932308277 10/7 HOT WINTER DISCOUNTS ON DAIKIN ENERGY SAVING AIR CONDITIONERS Save Up to $400 on Ducted Systems Save Up to $300 on Split and Multi Split Systems V Supply dumper bin to be placed on site.
