FLEXO Magazine : August 2012
FTA TODAY FIRST Press Operator Certification Making the Most Out of FIRST Methodology and Training By Steve Deering Flexographic technologies have increased the speed, accuracy and repeatability of presses faster than most thought possible. From its wide range of inks to its swift- ness, flexo printing has cemented itself as a serious contender with other modes of printing. But, how does one keep up with the technological advances and specifications? With the time consuming nature of training, how do pressrooms balance the need to keep their employees abreast of the current tech and specs with the need to get the next job done? This is where the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) comes in. The asso- ciations’ FIRST (Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifica- tions & Tolerances) Press Operator Certification Program has become a perfect match for firms that wish to develop employ- ees without having to spend needless travel cost. In previous articles, FLEXO has illustrated the overall certification program as well detailed the Prepress Operator Certification program. In the third installment of FLEXO Mag- azine’s exposé on the FIRST Operator Certification program, we will be discussing the Press Operator Certification.
