OUTDOORS PUT YOURSELF IN YOUR GARDEN REFLECT YOUR PERSONALITY Janita Singh Landscaped gardens are a reflection of individual tastes or personalities. SOMETHING EXTRA A fountain, bird bath, carving, paved walkways, a statue are some extra things that can add interest to a landscape garden. Make a statement with anything small and simple or big and dramatic for extra effect. The plants you pick will entirely be based on what you want achieved. A tropical garden, something fuss-free, a certain colour, or something to express yourself will all play a part. Look through magazines and buy books that specialise in landscaping. Drive around to see what other people are doing. Talk to someone who has tried this task themselves. Before embarking on this project, make a plan and work out everything from design to cost and what you want achieved. THERE are many beautiful things happening in the garden at this time of the year. The transition to spring means gardens are coming alive with new blooms. For those looking at starting gardens in time for spring, a garden can be as simple or as sophisticated as you fancy. While some people want a small garden with fuss-free blooms, oth- ers want those that scream out their personality. Recently, many homeowners have opted for landscaping to make outdoors more rewarding. Landscaping gardens yourself can be tricky but achievable. Landscaping a garden brings everything outdoors together in perfect harmony. This could be grafting a plant for each walkway, garden bed, tree, rock and blade of grass to create the perfect outdoor space. This can seem overwhelming but with a simple strategy in place, landscaping can be fun. Some points to consider: Keep it simple and work out a theme: Most landscaped gardens are based on a theme --- it could be about relaxation, a loved plant, your family's interest, a colour or a smell. What's the focal point? Where do you want most attention drawn --- which part of the outdoors? Think about patterns and designs, where you want designs repeated and where something unique can stand alone. Think plant, sizes, species and colour and how you want this placed. Keep in mind weather conditions for plant care. The story you want to tell: What's your story --- to cater for big family gatherings or your own private space, attracting birds and butterflies? Once you've worked this out, you can start picturing this in your head and on paper. 4577 7474 www.arcticair.com.au TRADE IN your old air conditioner! $200 cash back for split systems & $400 cash back for ducted systems Upon purchase of a new air conditioning system! 2250432 8/11 Decks Pergolas Stainless steel wire handrail Lattice Privacy Screens DIY pergola and deck kits Lic No: 170944C FREE LOCAL DELIVERY SHOWROOM OPEN 6 DAYS OUTDOOR PINE FREE DESIGN & QUOTE 5 CHILVERS ROAD THORNLEIGH www.thomsonsoutdoorpine.com.au 2136330i hln wk39 PHONE: 9980 7611 THOMSON S FRENCH STYLE BEDROOM AND DINING SUITES | CHANDELIERS LAMPS www.fleurfurniture.com.au 267 Victoria Road, GLADESVILLE p (02) 9817 1844 | f (02) 9818 3257 Parking to the rear of shop | Closed Mondays -- Open Tuesday to Sunday 10am - 5pm 2116078 16/8 IAN CUBITT S CLASSIC HOME IMPROVEMENTS MULTI-HIA AWARD WINNERS l LICENCE NO: 66902C COUNCIL APPROVAL | CONSTRUCTION | GROUND AND 1ST FLOOR EXTENSIONS Open 7 Days | 152 Russell Street, Emu Plains | www.classichomeimprovements.com.au BUILDER OF QUALITY GROUND FLOOR EXTENSIONS Designed and built for your lifestyle 1300 721 150 2147928 14/8
