A COAT OF FRESHNESS EASY SPRING MAKEOVER Janita Singh Details: colourconsult.com.au or dulux.com.au A new coat of paint is an easy, yet effective, way to give your home a fresh look. THE DETAILS Now that you have the perfect colour scheme, it's time to get down to the details: Decide how much of the house you'll eventually paint in each colour. Measure the number of square metres to be covered. For the ceiling, measure the room length and multiply by the width. For walls, measure the length around the room (perimeter) and multiply by the height of the walls. Decide if the room needs extra coats of paint. As a general guide, it takes two litres for an average ceiling and four litres for the walls in an average-sized bedroom if applying two coats. Many paint companies also offer easy-to-use online paint calculators. HOME DECORATION AFTER a long winter, we instinctively want to em- brace the change of season by refreshing and revitalis- ing our surroundings. When it comes to spring home makeovers, you need not embark on a big project to freshen up. A coat of paint can do the job. For most homeowners, spring is generally con- sidered painting season. Dulux Colour expert Bree Leech says new-season paints are about vibrancy -- the rich hues of yellow- greens, purples and blues will rejuvenate a home and make it ready for summer. The colour of your walls is the foundation of your makeover so get it right. Start by sourcing inspi- ration from magazines and online photo galleries. Acknowledge furnishings that you want to incor- porate after the makeover. Once you have an idea of the look you want, exper- iment with colour chips and sample pots to see how it looks combined with light- ing and decor. When choosing between whites, get a true reading of the tone by holding a grey paint swatch next to it. Seen any great ideas?
