FLEXO Magazine : February 2008
•Companyprofile CONTACT: Managing Director: • Arthur van der Weijden (firstname.lastname@example.org) Sales Director: • David Parr (email@example.com) Whilst Lead Lasers B.V., the Dutch-based manufacturing company, was founded less than 10 years ago, it origins and principals have a long history in flexo printing and direct laser engraving for printing applications. Managing Director and founder, Arthur Van Der Wiejden, worked for many years at the sharp end of flexo printing, as a print manager in a busy flexible packaging converter, then as production director for the manufacture of laser-engraved anilox rolls. This gave him not only a wealth of experience in the flexo printing process, but also an intimate knowledge of direct-laser engraving. He became increasingly aware of the ability of both CO2 and YAG lasers to consistently convert digital images into printing forms. No other process besides direct engraving is capable of producing, anilox rolls, continuous flexo sleeves, flexo plates, letterpress/dry-offset plates, rotary screen and embossing rolls. Having the design of a "perfect" laser in mind, Van Der Weijden decided to "surf the wave" of the digital revolution, and founded Lead Lasers in December 2000. The goal---to develop technology and create integrated client solutions for establishing a truly digital workflow, for the production of high-quality flexo printing. The name L.E.A.D stands for "Laser Engraved Application Development," and the slogan "from design to printing press" was born. PRODUCTS: DuoStar for Anilox, incorporating both CO2 and YAG lasers on the same machine, offers not only a huge leap in prod- uct reliability and productivity, but also a saving in capital equipment, as one laser is capable of producing two different products. FlexoStar for Direct Computer to Plate, DCTP, with a unique High Power single beam CO2 "moving laser" system, available up to 7m in length, FlexoStar, is capable of produc- tion of high resolution ITR printing sleeves and flexo plates. It is suitable for the flexible packaging segment, which has ad- opted both sleeve technology, for gearless, quick-change flexo presses, and digital plate making, as industry standards. FlexoStar MINI---The ability of direct engraving, to image ultra-high resolution graphics into a wide variety of printing plates, gives, particular advantages in the production of plates for letterpress and dry-offset printing applications. FlexoStar MINI is specifically for use by the medium to narrow web markets, as label, bottle, can and security printers now have the ability to produce litho quality graphics, using a single system.
