Project Chairs Norm Abrams and Henry Wittel say initial distribution is set for May Forum. The hardcover book measure 6 in. X 9 in. and is more than 300 pages. Sections and their editors are: Background of Flexography, James J. Deeney; Basic Tools of Flexography, Richard Jansing; Artwork & Design, Mel Kester; Engraving & Rubber Plates, Franklin Moss; Inks & Solvents, Frank Murphy; Material on Which We Print, Douglas Tuttle; Pressroom Practices, Calvin Balcom; Drying Methods & Ovens, Peter Fahrendorf; Auxilary Equipment, Robert Zuckerman; Maintenance and Care of Equipment, H.P. John Heinrich Equipment Corp.; and Glossary, David Killary. 1966---FTA Regional Workshop takes place March 19 in Baltimore, MD. FTA selects Bruce Gibson as the recipient of the Education Council of the Graphic Arts Industry's Elmer G. Voigt Award. The honor eventually transists into FTA's Hall of Fame. 1976---Flexographic Technical Journal, Vol. 1, No. 1---predecessor to FLEXO Magazine---premiers. Editorial opens lauding establishment of Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association and its accomplishments in its two-year his- tory. Plans for 12 workshops, one confer- ence, two seminars and three Operations Roundtables are calendared. 1979---FFTA Plate Conference takes place March 7-8, Carillon Hotel, Miami Beach, FL. Annual awards competition held in Elmhurst, NY, mid-month. Kansas City, MO, hosts two concurrent workshops---Flexible Packaging and Narrow Web---on the 23rd. Three concurrent workshops start March 30 in Dallas---Flexible Packaging, Narrow Web and Corrugated. FTA Plant- By-Plant Industry Survey is Underway. 1987---FTA announces its readying "Educators Curriculum Guide to the Flexographic Printing Process," designed for high school and junior college instruc- tors. Wide-Web Workshops take place in Boston on March 7, Montreal on March 21. Operations Roundtable is set for Columbus, OH, on March 26. 1991---FTA announces update of Quality Control Manual. Chapters include Intro to Quality Control, Planning for Quality Assurance, Incoming Raw Material Quality Control, Quality for Prepress Operations, Quality in the Pressroom, Auditing Quality for Control After Printing...Document is 178 pages. Process Color Seminar is set for March 4, followed by March 9 Narrow-Web, Wide-Web and Corrugated Workshops and Ink Seminar set for March 11, all in Appleton, WI. Basic Flexo, March 18, Rochester, NY; and Operations Roundtable, Mark 21 in Los Angeles. Same site, Los Angeles, kicked off March meet- ing with Narrow-Web, Wide-Web and Corrugated Workshops on March 2. 1995---FLEXO produces its third flexographically printed cover. It fol- lows December 1992 and December 1993. Project partners include DuPont, International Paper, Praxair, Rotometrics, Russell Field, Trinity Graphics, Webtron and Werneke Ink. Debut occurs at Forum, March 5-7, Orlando, FL. 2000---FFTA's Annual Forum is staged at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin, March 12-15. Hall of Fame Inductee James Feeney presents his "Survival Guide for the 21st Century" in the pages of FLEXO. The convention edition cover is produced flexographically for the 3rd con- secutive month in recognition of the dawn of the new millennium. 2003---NEHS Conference is held March 23-25 in Louisville, KY. Also, on March 30, the FFTA/FVTC Process Color Seminar kicks off. FFTA sponsors five-part series: Package Buyers and Retailers Raise their Voices in Unison and speak to the mem- bership. First up CMM, followed by three Voice of Customer Workshops---including a webinar. Wrap-up is set for Forum (May 4), where Ken Lowden presents "10 Great Ideas to Serve Packaging Customers Needs Through Flexography." FLEXO/FTA Printer Capital Expenditure Survey finds 95 per- cent of respondents plan to purchase anilox rolls; 52 percent, plate cylinders; 47 percent, presses; 32 percent, doctor blades; 32 percent, web-inspection systems in 2003. The magazine also continues its successful CEO Summit series with an entry on Ink Metering Systems. Finally, FFTA announces FIRST, 3rd Edition will hit streets Nov. 13---the date coincides with the staging of the organization's FIRST Conference, set for The Chaparral Suites, Scottsdale, AZ.
