FLEXO Magazine : March 2008
60 FLEXO MARCH 2008 www.flexography.org The Flexographic Technical Association and one of its charter members, Flint Group, share a common philosophy and identity mark: "Our goal is to help our custom- ers do their jobs, which means serving as a resource for all their technical questions, guid- ing them through the ever-changing industry landscape, and providing the best products for their needs. We continually place emphasis on being experts in the markets we serve." Drawing those parallels and similarities is Kim Stone, director of marketing, Flint Group North America. She said that she imagines the motivation behind Flint's decision to join the fledgling association back in 1958, was likely the management's intrigue with sharing mar- ket information and technological know-how, and having a forum in which to network with customers and suppliers. "FTA serves as a very useful resource for educational forums, information-sharing, updates and insights into the flexographic industries," Stone observed. "By continuing to offer tools and information in this way, as well as continuing to respond to member feedback, FTA will continue to be a very valued organi- zation to the flexo industry." CORPORATE HISTORY While Flint's ties to FTA go back 50 years, the suppliers' busi- ness partnerships with some association members go back even farther. Stone reported, "Flint Group was founded in 1920. At its birth, the company was called the Howard Flint Ink Co. It served the North American news market. Our founder was once an employee of The Detroit Free Press newspaper. From Day One, he served that paper and other North American newspapers. The Detroit Free Press continues to be a customer today."
