FLEXO Magazine : February 2013
publisher’s ink No Better Time, Place & Event RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!”-- If you’re reading this, chances are that in just two months, you’re planning on being in what we all hope will be sunny San Diego, CA. FTA’s Annual Forum is drawing you there with magnetic power and its promise of world-class educational opportunities, collaborative projects that will advance an industry and a networking opportunity that surpasses all others— INFO*FLEX 2013. Everybody is talking about the event. Excitement is building. Enthusiasm is high. Flexographer after flexographer puts one question to his/her peers: “Are you going to the FTA this year?” Generally, the answer is yes. And the justification, “This meet- ing, simply can’t be missed.” Clearly, FTA is making a lot of news these days. The marketplace is abuzz with reports that: • The Excellence in Flexography Awards judging has been staged and the high- quality printing work is rivaling, even surpassing gravure • INFO*FLEX ’s sell-out is a near guarantee • Room blocks at the Hqs. Hotel—The Marriott Marquis & Marina—are filling up • Flexo Quality Consortium (FQC) research projects are the subject of a great deal of attention and they are attracting a bevy of new volunteers • Technical Innovation Award applications have entered the evaluation stage • Final decision on the 2013 Hall of Fame inductee is near • People are still talking about last year ’s Forum and seeking to learn all they can relative to Expanded Gamut Printing, Food Safety Initiatives, FIRST Certifica- tion, etc. • They thirst for the revisiting of the popular Fall Conference topic—Automated Workflow Agendas for each session on the program are formidable and the value proposi- tion is large. Networking opportunities will abound. “Run to the numbers,” remains the clarion call for action. FLEXO is putting its pre-show planner to bed, previewing the action in San Diego and updating readers and Forum attendees on continued developments at Project FOG’D printer/converter partners. Up next, staff will be issuing the call for Official INFO*FLEX Exhibit Guide entries and following that up with the compilation of its exclusive, signature 100 percent recap of the 2013 Excellence in Flexography Awards competition. Busy times, but well worth the effort—that’s how we see the build-up to Forum, which this year’s chair so eloquently described as “The perfect confluence of time, place and event.” You’ll find that statement atop our Forum promotional cover, which itself serves as testament to the drawing power of an event that has been inspiring innovation in an industry for some 55 years. Bob Mullen tells us all in the special cover preview: “ You just might meet that contact, or sign that deal to make your year! It won’t happen, if you’re not there!” Those inspiring words should definitely impact your travel decisions. See you in San Diego! “ 10 FleXO february 2013 www.flexography.org FTA TODay FTA Board of Directors FFTA Board of Trustees Greg Platt FTA Chairman of the Board Southern Graphic Systems Jim Nelson FFTA Chairman of the Board Great Lakes Packaging Corporation Lon Robinson III FTA Chair-Elect Tension Corporation Dan Doherty FTA/FFTA Treasurer Prairie State Group Danny Christianson FFTA Vice Chair, Scholarships Farnell Packaging Ltd.
