FLEXO Magazine : February 2013
FLEXO: What technical advance- ments have simplified the flexographic process in recent years? How have they served to reduce waste, enhance efficiency, improve time to market and alleviate other challenges? DALY: There are some really amazing technologies in plates, prepress, mag- netic dies and servo drives that help maximize speed. Setup is now faster with all the improvement of anilox rolls/ sleeves and ink dispensing improve- ments. FLEXO: How is your firm embracing the industry ’s push toward standardiza- tion? Are you optimizing the production process and moving out to print to the numbers/specifications? D A LY: ASL is trying to employ more standardization—it is something we consider imperative. Also, we have been printing more to the numbers and are now doing International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles, more draw downs, etc. FLEXO: Do LEAN manufacturing prin- ciples have a place in your plant? Why/ why not? DALY: ASL does this to an extent. While the firm is LEAN, select process- es are somewhat slow because of the extra hours required. That said, ASL will continue to keep pushing more improvements into its system. We have performed extensive group work in this area. www.flexography.org february 2013 FLEXO 45 1-888-478-0998 No Plate Lifting No Plate Mounting Perfect Registration Every time.
