THE 20005 The videoconference, High Performance Flexo: Printing with a Cleaner, Greener Image, aired on April 27. Funded by the u.s. EPA, and developed by FTA and the Printers' National Environmental Assistance Center (PNEAC), the 2 1/2 hour program included live presentations, videos from mem- ber companies and live Questions and Answers. There were 80 downlink sites and 70 web simulcasts which attracted nearly 1,000 viewers. The American Society of Association Executives placed the event on the 2001 Honor Roll for Associations Advance America. FFTA's Annual Forum is staged at the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin, March 12-15. Hall of Fame Inductee James Feeney presents his "Survival Guide for the 21st Century" in the pages of FLEXO. Environmental offerings. from textbooks. to webinars and video programs won FTA accolades in the opening years of the decade. 2002 2002-FFTA and B2B Portales announce agreement to present FLEXO ESPAÑOL in the pages of Conversion-in both print and web format. The move increases FLEXO ESPAÑOL's frequency and speeds delivery to Latin American flexographers. The book, The Flexo Environment, focusing on environmen- tal issues for flexographers and containing input by more than 30 industry experts, becomes available in late summer. 106 FTA 50th Anniversary Journal Mexico City hosts FFTA Forum Mexico, Nov.15-16. Later that month, in Raleigh, NC, FFTA stages its FIRST (Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances) Road Show. Attendees to the one-day confer- ence focused on quality, consistent, reproducible results. The Association also announces the debut of its Environmental Excellence Awards program and called for formal entries to be submitted by year-end. Facilities that have undertaken the risks of innovation, served as pioneers in flexography and improved the environment in the process, are to be recognized. 2001 2001-Project FOG-Print Samples are Compared, Flexo takes on the competition-offset and gravure. Forum session takes on professional wrestling look. Dave Horsman, Forum chair explains in FLEXO, "In this new century, we have actually decided to put flexo to the test and have challenged convert- ers to print jobs traditionally printed rotogravure or offset. The audience at the general session will compare the pieces against the original." Lively animated, impressive and results oriented. FTA Presidency formally transfers to Mark Cisternino from Bill Dowdell at the May 6 Forum. Priorities remain: changing needs of FTA members; broadening of volunteer involve- ment, investment of resources to maximize return to mem- bership, cultivating staff skills and broadening relations with the educational community. FTA also announces traveling regional sessions as part of a major investment in providing industry training. FLEXO prints a commemorative Silver Jubilee edition, plus the first-ever Who's Who in Flexography and show- cases it on the July cover. The feature takes up 38 pages and profiles nearly 400 flexographers. .... FLEXO produces a dual-covered issue-covers bearing the FLEXO mast are positioned on both outside covers with the contents-a traditional monthly edition, plus a special supplement "A Practical Look at UV Curing," put together in cooperation with RadTech International-meeting in the middle. FFTA develops a refresher course for flexo press operators who wish to take the examination from the National Council of Skill Standards for Graphic Communications and become certified as an "Expert Flexo Press Operator." Dunwoody Institute of Technology, Minneapolis, MN, holds the course, April 3-5. On July 10, FTA joins three other printing associations in signing an agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to establish an alliance be- tween industry and government for the benefit of printers.
