greater percentage of the ink contained in the cell to transfer to the plate. Because the shape of the cell is stretched in only one direction, the roller can still have a high lpi count while deliver- ing more ink volume. With less land area, the durability of the roller is further compromised. And because these cell configurations require the latest laser technology and additional time to burn, the cost to manufacture high definition anilox rolls is higher. But for those jobs that require consistent coverage and greater density control, they can greatly reduce your setup time and scrap production while maintaining quality standards. TAKING STOCK OF INVENTORY Printers who are able to handle a wide variety of printing challenges more efficiently should have their inventory of anilox rolls and sleeves continuously audited and graded for specification, condition and life expectancy. Your roll engraver should be able to complete an audit for you or provide you with the tools necessary to keep you on top of your stock and prepared for business. The firm should also be able to guide you toward the right roller needed for the job to make sure that your costs are contained, your quality re- mains consistently high and your end product represents your superior capabilities and value to the customer. And you can continue to help the growth of flexography ’s market share! n About the Author: Ashley Foran is director of marketing at ARC International, A graduate of The Art Institute of Charlotte, she earned her degree in Business Marketing and Develop- ment.
