FLEXO Magazine : August 2013
ORCUTT: Absolutely! We have asked every speaker to discuss critical as- pects of data measurement from his/her specific area of expertise. Not just tell us to measure certain aspects, but how to measure and how to apply the data. WRIGHT: Each session will target a different area of the process and assist the printer on what to look for, what to measure. Then hopefully point him/ her in the right direction to successfully integrate the data collection. FLEXO: What type of suggestions and models will speakers showcase in of- fering advice and instruction on how to enhance plant performance levels? ORCUTT: We will see a variety of recommendations understanding the uniqueness of the speakers and indi- vidual product categories. How each speaker presents will be received dif- ferently, based on individual companies and internal capability. Plate measure- ment will be received differently from a company who self manufactures, com- pared to one that outsources to a trade shop or pre-media service provider, but the data and measurement practices are just as applicable. WRIGHT: Speakers are a great group of individuals in their respective areas and each can bring their expertise in real world experiences to the confer- ence. I am excited about the speakers we have lined up. FLEXO: What kind of specific data collection solutions will, or might be offered, to bridge data collection with quality, consistent, repeatable results? ORCUTT: Because of the various means of data collection, FTA has allowed some relaxed commercialism at the end of the sessions. This will allow some very specific discussions to take place. Also, FTA has opened up the Tabletop Exhibit during session breaks. This will allow attendees to ask for more detailed solutions from the individual speakers. WRIGHT: Data collection solutions will be directed toward the success or failure of the pressrun because that is where it all comes together. All roads lead to Rome and all variables meet at the press. FLEXO: How do you envision the five- to-six hours of Tabletop Exhibit time enhancing the Fall Conference agenda, as well as your goals and objectives? ORCUTT: For starters, all speakers and their representative companies are required to display at the Tabletop Exhibit. Because it is running concurrent to the session breaks, I anticipate more one-on-one interaction. WRIGHT: Time will be well spent with each vendor offering his/her own strate- gies on success. FLEXO: How can attendees maximize their return on investment? What type of take-aways will they be able to put to use almost immediately back at their plants? ORCUTT: We will hear during the sessions, how the proper utilization of data has provided a return on invest- ment. Time lost is never regained, so we anticipate attendees will benefit when putting some of what they will learn into practice. For those who read this article, I would try to identify one or more specific areas of internal concern and come prepared. If the area isn’t covered, I am positive a subject matter expert will be at Fall Conference and we can point the individual to the proper person. WRIGHT: Attendees can walk away with immediate ideas on improving on their current methods of process control. Daily methods can be improved very quickly. n Save $100 and Register by Sept. 27 Visit www.flexography.org for complete details www.flexography.org august 2013 FLEXO 23 Your participation can go a step further than just sitting in the audience...
