FLEXO Magazine : August 2013
to be Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC22000), which is conve- niently comparable to GFSI interna- tional schemes. FLEXO: How did you get backing from senior management? Do you feel stuck in the middle? DONATO: The mandate to obtain SQF certification came from senior manage- ment. I was fortunate that there was no conflict. The company put proper resources in place to achieve the corporate goal. Results of the annual senior management review meeting are required at the SQF audit. EAGLE Food Registrations has been ex- tremely responsive to our questions and customer needs. We receive timely and accurate technical services regarding SQF certification. FLEXO: Is there any equivalent certifi- cation for manufacturers of converting equipment to use during the manufac- turing process? DONATO: It would be best to engage the services of an SQF consultant to understand the scope of an audit as applied to your business. SQF includes food safety and quality aspects of prod- ucts, processes, materials and equip- ment. There are several references to equipment in the SQF guidance materi- als (i.e., 2.3.1, 2.4.2). FLEXO: What would the correct food grade proof of packaging for customers be? DONATO: As the customer of your sup- plier, you can request specific compli- ance status of any products you pur- chase. Our packaging suppliers state on letterhead that products purchased comply with the applicable Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards. Please refer to SQF 2.3 .2 .5 , Validation of Packaging Materials, which states: Documentation shall either be in the form of a declaration of continued guarantee of compliance, a certificate of conformance, or a certificate from the applicable regulatory agency. FLEXO: What about the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)? HAMILTON: SQF has done a compari- son of the requirements found in FSMA against the SQF code and found SQF to meet the requirements, other than in a few instances which are currently being addressed by augmenting the SQF code. www.flexography.org august 2013 FLEXO 27 © 2013 Harper Everything has to be neatly organized, labeled and logically positioned on the press side service cart.
