FLEXO Magazine : September 2013
Addressing productivity concerns, respondents put im- proved makereadies atop their wish lists. Key concerns were listed out as follows: • Increase utilization of lean practices in order to reduce time and waste during changeover (the most common response) • Faster, more consistent platemounting techniques • Quicker and more accurate ink matching • Better options for cleaning dirty parts from print units • More modern press equipment designed to maximize changeovers CUSTOMER CONCERNS Employee safety ranked first among customer concerns, according to the sample audience (See Chart 1). Product re- ject rate was valued as the second-most important issue and finished goods pricing third. For the flexible packaging market, employee safety again was the most important customer concern, followed by reject rate and product safety. In the TLD market, reject rate narrowly edged out employee safety, with graphics quality/ graphics color and consistency in third place. For the flexible packaging and TLD markets, as well as for all respondents in general, green and sustainable business practices was the customer concern least likely to be consid- ered “extremely important.” The most in-demand value-added features were decorative processes, such as foil and metallic, at 46 percent of respon- dents (See Chart 2). This also held true for the TLD market at just over 65 percent. The flexible packaging sector indicated that expanded gamut was the feature customers most often requested at 52.2 percent.
