Accredo Packaging Wins ePA Green Power Leadership Award SUGAR LAND, TX—Accredo Packaging has received a 2013 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environ- mental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA presented the award— one of eight bestowed nationwide—at the 2013 Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Austin, TX, on Sept. 23, 2013. The award recognizes EPA Green Power Partners who dis- tinguish themselves through purchases of green power from a utility green-pricing program, a competitive green marketer, or a renewable energy certificate (REC) supplier. Accredo Packaging is currently purchasing nearly 21 million kilowatt- hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization’s purchased electricity use. “We are honored to receive this prestigious award from EPA,” said Rex Varn, executive vice president. “Purchasing green power helps our organization become more sustainable, while also sending a message to others across the U.S. that supporting clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice in addressing climate change.” Green power is electric- ity that is generated from environmentally prefera- ble renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geo- thermal, biogas, eligible biomass and low-impact hydro. Using green power acceler- ates the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector. According to the EPA, Accredo Packaging’s current green power purchase of nearly 21 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of more than 3,000 passenger vehicles per year, or is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 2,000 aver- age American homes annually. bobst, Kodak team Up on New Packaging Solutions ROCHESTER, NY—In response to increasing demand for new solutions ad- dressing flexible, folding carton and corru- gated applications, Kodak and Bobst have formed a strategic development agreement to integrate Kodak technology into the Bobst portfolio of packaging production equipment. “Flexibility, time to market and improved total cost of ownership are increasingly important to our cus- tomers. To extend the capabilities of packaging production equipment, we decided to join forces with Kodak in particular because of their strength in the digital arena,” noted Jean- Pascal Bobst, chief executive officer of Bobst Group. “Our companies are working together on innovative industrial solutions that will offer our customers unique opportunities to expand their businesses. We are looking forward to comple- tion of development work and rigorous testing, and ultimately to the announcement of innovations to our customers.” “Bobst is admired throughout the packaging industry as a provider of high-quality solutions and for anticipating and meeting the changing needs of its customers,” said Antonio www.flexography.org OCTOBER 2013 FLeXo 9 8 FLeXo OCTOBER 2013 www.flexography.org PreSSING ISSUeS Green Team AtParagonLabel,Petaluma,CA,thegoalistoinflu- enceandinspireemployees, customers, visitorsand thecommunitytogetinvolvedintheirownsustain- abilitypractices.Thecompany’sphilosophyisasmuchabout howpeopletreateachotherasitisabouthowtheytreatthe planet.
