Formerly known as the Environmental Excellence Awards, this revised competition now encom- passes all three pillars of sustain- ability—people, planet and profit. The deadline for entry submission is Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013. Accredo Packaging Wins ePA Green Power Leadership Award SUGAR LAND, TX—Accredo Packaging has received a 2013 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environ- mental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA presented the award— one of eight bestowed nationwide—at the 2013 Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Austin, TX, on Sept. 23, 2013. The award recognizes EPA Green Power Partners who dis- tinguish themselves through purchases of green power from a utility green-pricing program, a competitive green marketer, or a renewable energy certificate (REC) supplier. Accredo Packaging is currently purchasing nearly 21 million kilowatt- hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization’s purchased electricity use. “ We are honored to receive this prestigious award from EPA,” said Rex Varn, executive vice president. “Purchasing green power helps our organization become more sustainable, while also sending a message to others across the U.S. that supporting clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice in addressing climate change.” Green power is electric- ity that is generated from environmentally prefera- ble renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geo- thermal, biogas, eligible biomass and low-impact hydro. Using green power acceler- ates the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector.
