INDUSTRY INDICATORS digital Plate Production opens doors FTA Members Sound Off Kodak’sFlexcelNXSystem,introducedatdrupa2008 and a winner of FTA’s 2009 Technical Innovation Award, recently saw its 300th installation. The system is now in place in more than 50 countries around the world. OEC Graph- ics, Oskosh, WI, was the company that hit the milestone. “The system has been on our radar for a very long time,” says Jeff Schloesser, OEC’s president. “Performance across the industry has been impressive and ultimately it was an easy decision for OEC to invest in this next level of superior plate production.” To mark the occasion, Kodak spoke to several FTA mem- bers who put the system to use in their print work. PAciFicoLor Pacificolor Owner Tim Hirsch says the company began exploring digital flexo in 2007 and trialed and subsequently installed several Flexcel NX systems at its Salt Lake City, UT plant. In the years since Hirsch says he has had “virtually zero service calls” for the machinery, the opportunity to do busi- ness with new customers and the ability to offer more to exist- ing clients, and a path for continued growth. “The proof that it was the right decision is that our business has grown 500 percent since we put the digital plate produc- tion system in,” he says. “It has changed where our business has gone and is paving the way for our success as we look to the future.” ATTRACTIVE POTENTIAL • Print smoother, higher-density solids without laying down more ink • Print with higher linescreens • Print high-density white in a single pass • Reduce the number of colors per job without sacrificing print quality • Reduce press downtime and run presses faster • Reduce makeready waste and ink consumption 92 FLeXo OCTOBER 2013 www.flexography.org 4th Annual Plate/ Platemaking/Sleeve Selection Guide
