FLEXO Magazine : December 2013
PUBLISHER’S INK A Collaborative Effort Compilations, cross references, contacts and classifications; soliciting, collect- ing, modifying and ultimately presenting them in a single collection—SourceBook 2014: The International Directory of Flexographic Printing, Packaging & Converting Products & Services is a complex undertaking. It begins with the “call for entries.” Initial requests go out in September with data collection targeted for completion by Oct. 1 . Multiple reminders follow in the ensu- ing few weeks, even as returns start pouring in. Personal appeals soon become a part of the campaign. Membership rosters are reviewed and re-reviewed to do our best to ensure 100 percent representation. What makes it all possible is a collaborative effort on the part of FTA members, most notably each firm’s designated representative. These are the individuals that we ask to pour over product/service codes, select those appropriate to their busi- ness, gather a consensus of opinion from corporate and plant executives, check and recheck what’s been published in the past, reconfirm all names put forth, etc. Together, we strive to make certain that the organization is presented and described just as it wants to be. With this edition, we’ve taken measures to apply consistent style and structure to all listings that appear on FLEXO’s pages. Standard abbreviations for common terms like corporation, company and incorporated were applied. Addresses adhere to postal standards. Conflicting punctuation was eliminated and, in trying to be fair to all manufacturers and products, we did not apply registration or trademark symbols. Style aside, it’s the content that counts. SourceBook 2014 is designed to serve dual purposes. It’s both FTA’s Annual Membership Directory and portrait of our evolving industry. It’s a testament to the size and scope of the flexographic printing and converting market—for that matter the global packaging development chain— as well as the corporate players shaping its destiny. Listed are your peers, friends, business partners and potential sources of supply. Moving forward, we’ll be asking for a little more collaboration and cooperation. Behind the scenes, we’ve been taking steps to strengthen SourceBook’s value. Ex- citing developments are coming. Specifically, our hope is to solicit advice from FTA members and INFO*FLEX exhibitors on necessary expansions of product codes and classifications. Surveys should go out in the spring. In the coming year, plans are to unveil a membership portal, where designated representatives can access their firm’s annual SourceBook listing, modify it in re- al-time and present up-to-the-minute details on its offerings. We’re almost there. 4 FLEXO DECEMBER 2013 www.flexography.org 4 FLEXO DECEMBER 2013 www.flexography.org FTA TODAY FTA Board of Directors FFTA Board of Trustees Jim Nelson Chairman, FFTA Board of Trustees Great Lakes Packaging Corporation Lon Robinson III Chairman, FTA Board of Directors Tension Corporation Allen Marquardt FFTA Chair Elect Kimberly-Clark Corporation Dan Doherty FTA/FFTA Treasurer Prairie State Group Jason Barrier FFTA Vice Chair, Project Evaluations Printpack Danny Christianson FFTA Vice Chair, Scholarships Farnell Packaging Ltd.
