FLEXO Magazine : February 2014
FTA TODAY SYNERGISTIC & FTA’s 2014 Annual Forum & INFO*FLEX Exhibition Breaks Ne Pepper Stokes, Robbie Fantastic Flexibles and Jessica Harkins Harrell, Anderson & Vreeland will co-chair Here, while emphasizing new directions, they tackle your questions on the program, its conception, execution and your expectations. Their promise is to “Break New Ground.” The theme of 2014’s Forum is “Breaking New Ground.” What insight can you provide into how that theme was chosen and what it means for attendees? Fresh. New. Different. This year we made it our No. 1 priority to bring forth new topics, new content, new research, new case studies… (new everything!) into the Forum program. Thus the theme “Breaking New Ground” came to be. We wanted to make sure that we broke new ground in every conceivable way. We’re introducing new sessions, new formats and new presenters. The Forum team has worked diligently to pursue new avenues of learning and to ensure the material that’s being discussed is germane and relevant to the audience. We set aside preconceived notions that a Forum agenda should be “a certain way” and in doing so, we came up with an event that is sure to help all attendees “Break New Ground” in their respective businesses. What is the “heart” of Forum’s program? The “heart” of this and every other FTA Forum is the people. It’s the conference goers who attend the sessions and pose direct, thought provoking questions; it’s the presenters who inspire dialogue, debate and discussion; it’s the INFO*FLEX exhibitors who share their new technologies and products to help grow our businesses; it’s the honorees at the Awards Banquet For you personally, what do you predict Forum’s highlight will be? Well, we’re partial to the Flexo Mythbusters session, but we’re also spearheading that one! In all seriousness, it’s hard to pinpoint what Forum’s main highlight will be because it is a different experience for everyone. This year we’ve introduced a new “Managing Your Pressroom who are celebrated for their excellence, their spirit of volunteerism and their innovations. Finally, it’s the members of the Forum committee, who work tirelessly up until the very end to make sure their sessions offer insight and knowledge. That’s the heart of Forum. It was in 1960 when FTA first held this event, and it continues to be now, some 54 years later. Describe the process that was used when it came to assembling the agenda for Forum? How is the “Breaking New Ground” theme reflected in the planned sessions? Our first goal was to assemble a stellar group of industry experts to form the backbone of the Forum Committee. Mission accomplished! Members of this group really have their fingers on the pulse of the flexo industry. They know what topics are hot, what topics can be put to bed, what needs to be reworked and what can be left untouched. We had countless brainstorming sessions and in the end, this “think tank” developed 11 exciting sessions (many of which are completely new to a Forum program) and immediately started going out into the field to make their visions realities. “Diversify your offerings. Expand your reach into new, previously untapped markets.”
