FLEXO Magazine : February 2014
& EXCEPTIONAL ew Ground FTA’s 54th Annual Forum, April 27-30 in Baltimore, MD. Efficiencies” session that will be crucial for printers who want to make the most out of their existing investments in machinery. “Expanded Gamut” is a hot one and one of the world’s largest CPCs, Procter & Gamble Co., will be headlining it, so that’s a huge draw. We also have an array of concurrent sessions that focus on the different market segments (i.e. flexible packaging, tags and labels, and corrugated), so those folks will find a lot of pertinent content there. The “Emerging Flexo Markets” will be essential for anyone looking to diversify their offerings and expand their reach into new, previously untapped markets to grow their businesses. FIRST is going to give sneak peaks at what’s in store for the newest version (4.X)… FQC will present findings from key projects… beginners will benefit from Flexography 101 and 102. Add to that the networking, the receptions, the Awards Banquet… it’s impossible to nail down the main highlight. In the end, that’s something we’re especially proud of. What do you think will be the biggest takeaways for printers in attendance? How about CPCs, designers and prepress techs? The flexo industry faces serious challenges: Increasing customer demands, shorter lead times, rising cost of raw materials—these are just some of the issues impacting business. There are also a host of opportunities that can be seized, but we need the proper intelligence to act on them. Forum 2014 will talk about benchmarking, G7 (Near Neutral Calibration), process control, pressroom efficiencies, expanded gamut printing, enhancing shelf appeal, new markets to explore… this subject matter is relevant not only to printers, but for CPCs, designers, prepress providers, etc. If it’s trending, rest assured Forum 2014 will address it. Is there anything you’d like to say about Baltimore, the 2014 Forum’s host city, from the perspective of what attendees can expect? Baltimore is a great venue. It’s got the three “A’s” everyone is looking for: Accessibility, Affordability and Attractions. With numerous flight options, convenient highway access and a host of rail options, traveling to and from Baltimore is easy. The city is also very affordable—its accommodations, dining and airfares are among the lowest when compared to other key destinations. Baltimore also offers a wide variety of attractions, including the famous Inner Harbor, which offers an array of first class restaurants, entertainment venues and cultural institutions. Plus, sports enthusiasts will appreciate that the popular Oriole Park at Camden Yards and Ravens Stadium are all within walking distance from the Hilton (Forum’s headquarters hotel) and the convention center (where INFO*FLEX takes place). Simply put, Baltimore has it all! Pepper Stokes Jessica Harkins Harrell “Become a better flexographer. Control outcomes. Secure your future.”
