FLEXO Magazine : February 2014
Flexo’s Finest Earn 102 Awards Winners to Be Revealed at Forum in April Two conference halls filled with hundreds of entrants. Dozens of industry veterans and flexo mavens, loupes clenched in hand. Spirited debate and discussion over quality, clarity and other criteria that, collectively, spell out what is award worthy. These were some of the sights and sounds filling the Grand Historic Venue in Baltimore, MD over the course of two days in late January. The reason? To crown yet another batch of winners in FTA’s Annual Excellence in Flexography Awards. And crown they did; 102 awards were given to entrants deemed worthy by judges, broken down as follows: • 28 Gold medals • 34 Silver medals • 38 Bronze medals • 2 Self Promotion awards • 6 best of show designations, chosen from the pool of gold medal winning entries “[There was] much cleaner print, great registration, espe- cially knockouts, foils and varnishes,” said Kim Tuccitto of Best Label. “ Entries were all good, I believe due to FIRST toleranc- es and specifications.” For now, only a select few individuals in the world of flexo know who won what. That will change on the first night of FTA’s Annual Forum & INFO*FLEX, descending on the Balti- more area April 27-30. Award winners will be announced at Sunday night’s annual banquet inside the Hilton Baltimore. Following the awards presentation, winners will be on display in the 2014 Excellence in Flexography Awards Gallery at INFO*FLEX, taking place at the Baltimore Convention Center from April 28 to 29. FLEXO®’s exclusive recap will be distribut- ed on site. Award winners, competition entrants and those who elect- ed not to submit will all benefit from the planned sessions at Forum. This year’s theme, “Breaking New Ground,” is brought to life in various forward thinking presentations. Whether you’ve already picked out shelf space for your first Excellence award or are running out of room for them, the information, techniques and applications discussed can be of benefit: • Expanded Gamut Printing, The Customer & You Listen to Procter & Gamble’s Rick Pollard talk about his com- pany ’s use of Expanded Gamut printing, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A from audience members 52 FLEXO FEBRUARY 2014 www.flexography.org FTA TODAY Foreground, from left: Rory Marsoun, Pam Dorrough and Sean Teufler discuss an award entry.
