Home Living : August 5th 2008
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 7 HOMELIVING Hang in there Picture hangers are terrific for rendered walls -- just hammer the steel pins in and hang a picture. Renovation expert Kevin Farrell says taking them off isn't always so simple, because a chunk of wall often tears out with it. ''That's if you aren't careful, but if you gingerly pry the hanger a little at a time, working your way around, you should find that the hanger slowly eases from the wall to leave four tiny pinholes,'' he said. Use a wood chisel or broad scraper blade to apply gentle pressure to the picture hanger, taking care not to dent the wall surface. If any pins remain in the wall, give them a gentle twist with a pair of pliers before trying to pull them from the wall. Sometimes the tiny holes are barely noticeable, but sometimes you'll need fill the holes with plaster (spackle) and re-paint. Keeping bub safe On July 1 new safety standards for prams and strollers were introduced to NSW. In two incidents, infants drowned when their three-wheeled strollers rolled away from parents, down a slope and into a river. Accidents also happen on railway platforms where carers aren't aware of the downward slope of the platform and lose control of the pram. The new standards will reduce the risk of serious injury or death as a result of accidents. It will also ensure that all prams and strollers for sale meet minimum Australian safety standards for brakes, safety restraints, tether straps, testing procedures and labelling. Most prams and strollers already comply with the voluntary standard. However, before you buy a stroller, check the label to ensure it meets the standard. ................................................ Also an extensive range of quality...
