6 HLF - Publication, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 New kitchens made easy Write to Ask The Experts about individual problems in the home. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your question or fax Ask The Experts 9689 5399. HOMELIVING » ADVERTISING FEATURE ASK THE EXPERTS Amanda Stanford wants to install a new kitchen but admits that she simply doesn't know where to start. Creative House of Kitchens and Bathrooms owners Sue and Warren Burns agree that most people who walk into their showroom are of the same mind. ''We find that most people are time poor and need to do things in a hurry. However when it comes to selecting a kitchen they often times get stumped and have to take their time,'' Mrs Burns said. ''It is a good idea to go through kitchen and bathroom magazines to decide on the look that is preferred, then when you have your likes and dislikes visit a showroom.'' You have to be comfortable with whom you are going to work. Make sure the company is licensed, offers home owners warranty insurance and ask yourself, ''Am I going to see this person again or are they going to palm me off to the next person?'' How much should we set aside for the kitchen? It is wise to decide how much you want to spend then work from there. At the showroom we can give an average cost for the finish selected before measuring and quoting. When choosing a kitchen there are always ideal compromises that can be made to remain within a budget. We can stay within a price and still give the customer a practical, pleasing design and finish that they will be proud to own. After having a bit of a look I feel that drawers are more practical than some cupboards that are hard to get to. Is this true? You do get more storage area using drawers and can have three levels of storage in the one unit instead of two in a cupboard. And when you open it, everything is at your fingertips. Drawers come in all sizes from the larger pots-and-pans drawer right down to a convenient spice slide-out. However some people want drawers but don't like the look of them so we can design door fronts with multiple drawers internally, or drawers within drawers for the minimal look people want these days. There are also pantry shelves that conveniently slide out and many other innovative concepts to examine at the showroom. How does the kitchen all fit together? Because we custom build the kitchen to suit the area any size, width and depth can be made to measure. When we decide on everything, what next? Our renovation team -- including all plumbing, electrical and tiling -- will take out the old kitchen and install the new addition, with a minimum of fuss.
