The document describes the properties of tone curves. Some discussion in U.S . delegation about continuity of the curve was also raised by the U.K . delegation. Wording was drafted to indicate that tone curves shall be invertible and thus developers of the curve must assure that any stepwise jumps or flat areas in the tone curve can be easily handled for inversion • ISO/CD 17972-4.2 Graphic technology—Color data exchange format (CxF/X) – Part 4: Spot color characterization data (CxF/X-4) This was discussed and some changes were recommended. A ballot should be distributed soon. Changes included: - Add informative Annex B which include CxF Core Schema - Modify Title to reflect scope—title changed to Spot color ink characterization data (CxF/X-4) - Correct spelling of characteri- zation for consistency with other standards - Addition of values that no compen- sation is intended is ambiguous - Change tint value to tone value There was discussion on two comments submitted by Belgium and Romania regarding the relation between patch size and its measurement purpose that were contradictory. It was suggested that a sentence be added indicating that the responsibility for ensuring the compati- bility of patch size and instruction for use is not covered in this standard but is the responsibility of the user. It was agreed to add the following to 5.1.2: This document does not provide guidance as to how to measure patches. Users shall ensure that measurements are made in line with the measurement instrument man- ufacturer's guidelines. For most spot measurement systems, a patch width and height of 1-mm. larger than the aperture size of the measuring device is a minimum requirement. See ISO 13655 for additional guidance. • ISO 32000-1 Document manage- ment—Portable document format – Part 1: PDF 1.7 It was reported to WG-2 that there are some ambiguities in this document such that it allows valid, conforming document preparations that can produce inconsistent re- sults. There is now work underway to clarify these parts of the standard If you would like to review and com- ment on any of these ballots, please con- tact FTA Educational Director Joe Tuccitto at firstname.lastname@example.org. www.flexography.org MARCH 2014 FLEXO 51 www.flexography.org MARCH 2014 FLEXO 51
