FLEXO Magazine : March 2014
Pressroom Efficiencies Look to optimize performance of ex- isting machinery, increase its reliability, lower downtime and improve operator performance! Benchmark, analyze and improve your production process! That, according to Ron Henderson and Ran- dy Green, is the overriding message that will come out of Managing Your Pressroom Efficiencies, the session they will co chair at Forum 2014. “ Two thirds of our speakers are printers,” Henderson explained. “ Talks delivered will really be about making the process better and giving people the ability to walk away with enough information and a desire to see the val- ue and go out and strongly pursue the practice of Overall Equipment Effective- ness (OEE). ” Adrian Pask, Vorne Industries will open the proceedings and look at how OEE drives growth through focus and action. He’ll even furnish attendees with three audits to test on their existing process. Then, Hank Welter of Coveris (Exopack) and James Seal and Galen Croxton of Tetra Pak will reinforce the importance of these practices through real life experiences. “ We’re going to have a fun interactive portion that Hank will present and it’s very hands on,” Henderson promised. “ T hese presenters are extremely knowl- edgeable people who live OEE day in and day out. Their jobs are all about embracing this philosophy. They teach and drive operational excellence. This session has certainly been tailored to peak the interest of the printer and the printer looking to improve his process in allofus. “ Elaborating on the point, he said, “ With ‘Breaking New Ground,’ the theme of Forum 2014, our look at Total Quality Management, specifically OEE, ties in very closely. This Forum is being grounded behind getting back in touch with printers. People are going to be able to take away something and go back and work on it. Presentations are rooted in giving strong tools to the industry to continue to strengthen flexography.” Name: Managing Your Pressroom Efficiencies Date: Sunday, April 27 Time: 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Chairs: Ron Henderson of Clopay Plastic Products Randy Green of Printpack Mythbusters Rumors. Urban legends. Old wives’ tales. “A little birdy told me.” BS. Myths, by any name, are often nothing more than a game of telephone gone wrong. By their very nature, they are designed to be proven wrong. And at Forum 2014, many of the most prevalent myths sur- rounding the world of flexo will busted once and for all. “ T his session is going to be one for the record books,” said session co chairs Pepper Stokes, Robbie Fantastic Flexibles and Jessica Harkins Harrell, Anderson & Vreeland, Inc. “ We’ll shed light on what is fact and what is fabrica- tion, and we’ll do so in an engaging and hilarious manner.” Along with a host of flexo industry stalwarts, Stokes and Harkins Harrell will lay to rest many of the myths that have been repeated for years. Among them will be: • It’s nearly impossible to steal print jobs back to flexo from gravure • A 60 degree hex cell shape is the best anilox engraving • You can’t get an accurate ink stan- dard without putting the sample on press • Additional myths surrounding high definition printing, food packaging, mounting tapes, vignettes, spot colors, measurement tools, taboo processes, anilox engraving, UV ink curing, ink temperatures, photo- polymer plates, coating and lami- nations and flexo versus competing print processes “ T his is going to be 120 minutes of straight debunking and clarification, so find a seat up front and bring an open mind and a willingness to look at things a different way,” the chairs said.
