Home Living : September 2nd 2008
HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, September 2, 2008 7 Spring's here, have a blast Write to Ask The Experts about individual problems in the home. Email email@example.com with your question or fax Ask The Experts 9689 5399. HOMELIVING ASK THE EXPERTS » ADVERTISING FEATURE Carol and Geoff Murray have noticed a build-up of dirt, grime, mould and mildew around their house. They are planning a big spring clean but don't want to waste water. What sort of equipment can they hire to do this? Kennards Hire NSW general manager Adrian Manning says their hire centres have a large range of high- pressure water blasters. Are these allowed now? You can now use a water blaster with a trigger nozzle to clean the exterior of homes including walls, windows and gutters. Boats, car engines and caravans can also be water- blasted. Cleaning paths or driveways is not allowed, although you can seek a permit from Sydney Water if moss has made them dangerous. We have a special Rotary Kleen attachment for this. How do you clean without wasting water? Water blasters have a trigger nozzle, so water is released only when the trigger is held down. These machines are also water-efficient because they blast water at great force, speeding up the cleaning process. Are they hard to use? Our most popular DIY model is easy to wheel around, plugs into a normal power point and blasts out cold water at 1200-1500 psi (pounds per square inch). We also have petrol-powered, 2000 psi, cold water machines. How do you transport them? The electric one fits into the boot of a medium sedan, while the petrol unit can be taken in a trailer or delivered for a small fee. You mention cold water blasters. What about hot water blasting? We have a new hot water blaster for oil and grease removal. It's great on boats and car engines. Is advice available? Staff are glad to assist.
