Home Living : September 2nd 2008
12 HLN - HOME LIVING: NORTH, Tuesday, September 2, 2008 Ultimate barbecue » ADVERTISING FEATURE HOMELIVING Following research into the increasing trend of people entertaining at home and investing in their outdoor-living areas, Electrolux has launched Fuego, a barbecue to suit the Australian outdoor lifestyle. Electrolux design director Lars Erikson says it has a range of clever design features. ''Fuego will complement modern outdoor-living areas, large or small as it is offered in two sizes.'' The standard model has two cooking surfaces and is ideal for larger spaces while the compact has one cooking space and is ideal for balconies and courtyards. The cooking island provides a natural environment for social interaction in outdoor space and offers areas for both food preparation and cooking. It is designed with a fully retractable lid, weatherproof controls and built-in wheels with a lock. The Fuego is part bar-part barbecue, with wide countertops to hold platters and glasses and a flat serving surface that's not restricted by a hood. The design mixes a stainless steel trim, black- finished cooking surface, natural teak countertops and slate control covers. Its durable yet sleek design make it a standout feature of any outdoor setting. The range offers a place for everything when entertaining outdoors, including hidden storage space and a host of optional accessories onto side panels including a paper towel holder, ceramic food trays and a spice jar rack. The standard version has a recommended retail price of $4449, while the compact is $2799. Wash 'n ware A trend that is beginning to emerge in Europe is the mix-and-match bathroom. While the suite is still a very popular way of buying a new bathroom, consumers are increasingly purchasing individual items, often with wide price variations, Housing Industry Association executive director Graham Wolfe says. ''There are two main reasons for this development,'' he says. ''Firstly, there is now so much choice. ''For instance, in the 1960s there were probably about 100 different types of wash basins in production. ''Today it's in the tens of thousands worldwide . . . so why would you want to stick with a set suite?'' Mr Wolfe says you can choose one really expensive or unusual item to become the focal point of the bathroom, then save money with the rest. Bathrooms are often the last remaining places where privacy can be obtained in a busy household. This being so, it is only reasonable they should have the personal stamp of the householder upon them. If you are not sure how a customised bathroom will work for you, consult an HIA interior designer or builder to find out what is possible in the space you have available.
