20 FLEXO | JULY 2014 FTA Welcomes 170 New Members BOHEMIA, NY—As the demand for quality training programs, networking opportunities and idea exchanges within the package printing and converting marketplace intensifies, the rank and file FTA continues to grow—not only in the U.S. but also on an interna- tional level. From January 2014 to May 2014, nearly 170 new companies and/or individuals, from countries including the U.S ., South Africa, Bolivia, Venezuela, Finland, Turkey and Israel, joined FTA’s membership roster, which encompasses the entire package printing and converting supply chain. Will, Pemco, Kugler-Womako PHILLIPS, WI—MarquipWardUnited, Inc., a Barry-Wehmiller company, has completed the acquisition of the operations of Körber AG’s Papersystems companies: E.C .H. Will GmbH, Pemco Inc. and Kugler-Womako GmbH. The companies become part of the newly formed BW Papersystems, now a leading global supplier of sheeting and sheet packaging machinery, with solutions for the widest range of applications for the paper converting, manufacturing and packag- ing industries. BW Papersystems employs nearly 1,500 team members worldwide and is expected to generate revenue in excess of $370 million in FY 2014. “With almost $100 million in revenue, 250,000 sq. feet of additional capacity and more than 340 new associates, the acquisi- tion of the Körber Papersystems businesses opens up a whole new beginning for our organization,” said Tim Sullivan, Barry-Wehmiller Group president. “We look forward to the exciting opportunities our new platform creates for our customers, suppliers and all of our team members worldwide. “We are thrilled to partner with the great people from E.C .H . FTA Launches New Interactive Online Course: Ink Handling And Maintenance BOHEMIA, NY—FTA has announced a new, interactive online course based on its FLEXOGRAPHY 101 booklet series. The course, Ink Handling and Maintenance, serves as a primer on the different flexographic ink types and their properties, proper handling and maintenance, drying and curing systems, and clean up techniques. Additionally, it covers after print tests that can be performed to help ensure the quality of the printed product meets expectations. “As the medium that transfers an image from plate to substrate, ink is a critical component to the flexographic printing process,” said Bjorn Knutson, manager of certification and technical services. “This course is perfect for anyone looking to obtain a firm understanding of ink and its proper application for high quality and color accurate print results.” The 30–40 minute, self paced course is $80 for FTA members and $160 for non-members and includes a complimentary copy of the FLEXOGRAPHY 101 booklet, Ink Handling & Maintenance. Ink Handling and Maintenance is ideal for new hires, entry level flexographers, sales and marketing personnel, students, educators and those wanting a refresher.
