Omet Announces Double Unwinding System, Flat Bed Hot Foil LECCO, Italy—Omet took the occasion of its recent open house to launch a simple, yet effective innovation aimed at saving time and reducing general waste during job changeovers on its printing presses. The innovation consisted of the inline insertion of a double unwinder, a semi automatic unwinding system that allows for fast change of the printing substrate. With it, the operator only needs to switch from one material roll to another—previously uploaded on the second shaft of the double unwinder—cut, splice and start printing. The second unwinding shaft is an option that can applied to the XFlex line of presses. The two shafts can be used alternatively so the prepa- ration of the new roll on the free shaft can be done while the machine is still in operation. The double unwinder helps save several min- utes in the changeover process; as a conse- quence the productivity and profitability of the machine increase with any type of run. As an example: With a production speed of average 120 meters per minute, 2,000 meters each roll and two eight hour job shifts a day, you can save 321 hours of production in a year (over a total of 230 days of machine output a year) on any Omet printing press.
