FLEXO Magazine : August 2014
of the magazine and enable it to be the valu- able resource it is First Plant Tour As part of a Kodak sponsored media event, I went to see MRI Flexible Packaging's facility in Newtown, PA. e highlight was coming face to face with the enormous new press the company just installed, a Bobst F&K 20SIX. Watching the machine whir to life and web y through its maze of rollers was the rst real world interaction with the equipment I had only read about e FLEXO® Te a m Last year's August issue of FLEXO® was the rst to have my name on the masthead. Since then, every editorial meeting has been my introduction to whatever a given issue's focus was, be it SourceBook, an equip- ment buying guide or something else. e core team behind the magazine---Bob Moran, Jay Kaible and Katie Dubois---is a well oiled machine and while I'm sure I slowed them down at rst, they've been happy to show me the ropes ank you to all those who have assisted me in my rst year! " One year ago this month, I joined FTA. To say my first year has been enjoyable is both an understatement and an indication that I plan to be around for a second." Printers have demanded improvements and manufacturers have obliged. Today's presses are durable, smart, operator friendly and highly e cient. Work in progress is subject to constant monitoring---right on press. Tight tolerances are held. Color is managed and controlled. Makereadies are quick. Change- overs are fast. Waste is minimal. Short runs are accommodated and delivery is rapid. Selection of the press that is right for your plant, your jobs and your applications can be a grueling task. With this, FLEXO®'s 6th Annual Press Buyer's Guide And Convert- ing Equipment Selector, we've set out to simplify your initial foray into the process. We've collected comments on each platform, including assessments of current trends, es- sential features designed to address common concerns and patented technologies that may di erentiate one manufacturer and one model from another. Plus, we've supplemented the discussion with an extensive collection of technical data briefs and accompanying photos to give a clearer picture of the options, their space require- ments and their capabilities. e section is certainly comprehensive and stretches more than 50 pages. It even includes a section on nishing tools. Signi cant as the task of compiling the ma- terial was, we consider the result impressive and worthwhile. e presentation condenses the size of individual technical data charts but expands their volume and cements the section's relevance. Furthermore, it allows us to tweak the design and keep it fresh, some- thing that's been our concentration of late. By intent, this edition keeps us focused, but more importantly it helps you to deliver on your promise---consistent, predictable, repeatable results, made possible by the press. We all appreciate its pivotal role that strengthens your game and equips you to meet customer expectations.
