Open House to Demo
WHITE HOUSE, TN—A joint open house
was held by KYMC and Werthan Packag-
ing in White House, TN on Oct. 25 and 26.
Over the two days, the event hosted more
than 130 attendees who saw the new gener-
ation of a KYMC 10-color Euroflex gearless
press demonstrating machine automation
for job changeover and setup.
The Euroflex press was delivered to the
plant in February 2016. A live demonstra-
tion started with a 7-color surface print on
coated paper plus UV varnish on a down-
stream station. The I-regi was first demon-
strated after the press was started—this is
an automatic register setting operated while
the machine is stopped and wastes less
than 150-ft. to set the register. The press
was then ramped up to the cruise speed of
1,200 fpm to show how precise the register
is held and how quiet the machine runs.
A second job was demonstrated to show
a changeover and setup of the new job. It
took less than 30 minutes to change the
job from 7+1-color surface print on paper
to 8-color reverse print on PET, including
auto wash of all decks to change the ink
from Flint to INX, a web threading change
to bypass UV stations, and to reverse
the monitoring mode of treading at the
place of the camera. The press operator
then demonstrated the Smart Impression
setting—with this system, the impression
pressure setting can be done within min-
utes with a very small amount of waste.
Mark Andy Receives UL 969 Certification for
Digital Series Ink on Avery Dennison Substrates
ST. LOUIS, MO—Mark Andy is proud to announce the successful UL 969 certification for
Digital Series ink on Avery Dennison substrates.
This certification is given by the Underwriters Laboratories, an internationally acknowl-
edged safety science company, and is focused on ensuring the quality and reliability of du-
rable labels. In order to obtain this classification, specially formulated Mark Andy inks were
run through a series of rigorous tests performed by the UL. This includes scratch, exposure,
10 day oven, outdoor weathering, indoor fade tests and various other stress tests to submit
the materials to the harsh conditions they would face in the real world.
The inks were also able to pass the majority of the tests without a laminate present. This
will allow converters to avoid the cost of expensive laminates when printing durable labels
with Mark Andy Digital Series inks. A broad range of substrates were tested and approved,
including white PET, clear PET and chrome PET for outdoor usage, as well as white BOPP
and synthetic paper for indoor use.
Asahi Photoproducts Relaunches Flexo Plate for
TOKYO, Japan & BRUSSELS, Belgium—Asahi Photoproducts announced it is relaunching
AFP-SE/DSE solid photopolymer flexographic printing plates to meet market demand for a
single source provider of printing plates for all flexographic printing applications.
The Asahi AFP-SE/DSE flexo plate is ideal for printing
on corrugated board, solid board and heavy duty bags,
some of the toughest applications printing on highly
abrasive substrates. The surface roughness of these
substrates makes quality printing difficult to achieve.
The Shore hardness of the AFP-SE/DSE flexo plate
and its resilience characteristics offer a perfect balance
between high quality printing and long plate life on
the printing press. Its wide exposure latitude ensures
image elements like halftone dots and isolated lines are
optimally anchored, even with a relief depth of 3-mm .
At the same time, intermediate depths form evenly,
and the relief is produced with steep shoulders.
Grafikontrol Announces Plans for Pennsylvania
Demo Center in 2017
MILAN, Italy—In 2016, Grafikontrol invested in a print simulator dedicated to the U.S.
market, used at shows like Labelexpo Americas, Graph Expo and other open house events.
Grafikontrol Sales Director and Partner Paolo De Grandis is delighted to announce that
2017’s plans include the creation of a demo center at the York, PA office, to which U.S . cus-
tomers can be invited to watch demonstrations of Grafikontrol control systems on the print
The recent participation in Labelexpo Americas was an opportunity for Grafikontrol to
verify its position in the U.S. market. Having already operated in the market for 35 years
through OEMs and agents, in 2015 Grafikontrol opened an office in the U.S. to handle sales
and technical support. Sales have focused primarily in the converting sector and are increas-
ing: Today, the U.S . is the second biggest market for Grafikontrol, accounting for around 20
percent of its turnover.
